Orchestral Favourites? When it came out, I assumed that FZ put it out simply to satisfy his contractual obligation to WB. But it grows on ya.

I detested SATLTSADW when it first appeared as well, except for the title track.

Clearly, FZ never released a bad album. There are only bad listenings.

The flo & Eddie and Zoot versions have nothing on this little blast of dirty funk! ;D

Somehow I just don't buy that the Drew Carey guy is going to kick my ass. A picture of Beefheart and I'd be trembling though!

I love Thing-Fish!!! (other than the overabundance of tracks directly off other albums with little changed other than the Thingfish vocal) I think all the original material is excellent, no guitar solos, but I guess that's just the album.

I hated Thing-Fish at first. So I decided to give it a chance. So I listened to it, and listened to it again, then again and again! Now I hate it even more!

Glad to hear there are other people who prefer burnt weenie to Uncle Meat, (not that I don't love uncle Meat! dear god is he my favorite relative!) I've always felt like burnt weenie was disc three of uncle meat...

It's just the boring-ass deep singing. I'd say when I got it, I gave it 7 outta 10. Now, 6 outta 10. So, it's the same deal, different order.........

Most of the stuff I thought was just OK, then I realized , wow...amazing. Most with Sheik Yerbouti and Joes Garage. (Garage was my first, and now my favorite.)

if i can just go back to the beefheart disscussion i would have to say that I personaly was a bit dissapointed by blue genes and moonbeams and to a lesser extent doc at the radar station. not dissapointed like ill never ever listen to it but more like dissapointed becase the potential is there. doc is great but its chaotic. not in a trout mask way but in a like hes been doing coke way.

but id definately agree with zardoz that safe as milk is a must have. try get your hands on the new rematered edition: its clearer but still has its gritty appeal of the original masters + a few bonus cuts. just stuff youd here on other albums like mirror man sessions but there different takes. well worth it. id say that for me is the greatest beefheart album ever. ice cream for crow is great too.
