Okay - Without going nuts over which is the best mix, simply vote for the track that you enjoy the most.....or you can go nuts, whichever is more fun. :D

If you come to view, why not vote, too? 8)

I voted for Filthy Habits. And just for the record; I absolutely hate the vocal mix, her voice annoys the fuck out of me!

This particular Ocean isn't called the Ultimate Solution for nothing! It rocks! Avant-garde power-trio jam at its best.

Yeah, i agree with Crudblud, Thana Harris IS irksome! The other day when I was listening to "Them Or Us", I really thought she stunk up that "Baby Take Your Teeth Out" song, which already wasn't that spectacular. And not to mention anything she does on Sleep Dirt CD...

Side note: is Thana Harris related to Bob Harris (either one)? If so, why?

I picked The Ocean is the Ultimate Solution. Mezzzzzmerizzzzing stuff.

Thana is the wife of Bob Harris on keyboards, trumpet and tiny weeny little high vocals.

Sleep Dirt is a brilliant acoustic guitar piece. My other favorite Zappa album hands down.

So far everyone clearly prefers the instrumental stuff. :)

What I find most interesting is that, so far, no one has voted for any of the 3 songs that are represented as both vocal and instrumental.

I prefer the instrumentals, yes, but I LOVE Thana Harris' vocals. Spider Of Destiny for instance works perfectly as a vocal tune. (Please don't kill me)

But I HATE the drum overdubs. Chad W makes me spit.

Ocean ftw,

can't believe Lather cut out the first four minutes and thirty seconds which are easily teh best part of the song.

Even George Starostin loves this song!

I like all the instrumental stuff, but love Re-Egyptian Strut. It makes no sense where it's placed (on Lather it's, like, THE perfect album opener) but the rest of the instrumental stuff is great.

I think the vocals work best on Spider Of Destiny, but that kind of vocalization is NOT my favorite.

I wonder if Hunchentoot exists in it's entirety within the vault?

I remember hearing an interview with FZ and Genya Raven on the Dr. Demento show a long time ago discussing Time is Money amongst other things.

Filthy Habits.

As an aside, the version on vol. 4 is one of the songs I've listened to most overall. I just love the sinister sound of that track.

Sorry, but I do enjoy the vocal tracks. "Eat the earth people!" I was enjoying this cd yesterday in the car. If I need the instrumental fix, I listen to LATHER. It's all good.. it's FZ!

I don't HATE the vocals, and I understand why Frank put them on, but they don't really appeal to me either.
