Damn it!*

(*which is what Pat O'Hearn says during 6:41 at his contrabass solo in "The Ocean Is the Ultimate Solution", originally bearing the title of the eventual title track of album of this current poll, which is a mutation of French for what O'Hearn said)

Man, this just isn't fair.
Part of me wants to vote for Zoot
The smarter part made me vote for
Black Napkins

not a big fan of this version of zoot allures (the song), i prefer the first half of YCDTOSA or even TBBYNHIYL with the horns.

I choose Black Napkins because I feel it's one of FZ's best solos on record. That being said this album doesn't get much play from me compared to my other stuff. Alot of the stuff is pedestrian by Zappa standards(still good music, but not as good compared to other releases).

Slightly off topic, but I'm now listening to the Osaka Japan 1976 recording of "Zoot Allures" from the FZ Plays the Music of FZ OFFICIAL release. Wonderful recording....

I give it the occational spin, but it's in the lower region of my zappa's album list. Howewer: when I started listening to Zappa in the early eighties, this album was frequenly regarded as one of Frank's best.

Yum. Love that track.

And went with Black Napkins in it's death match with Zoot Allures, two of the three signature FZ guitar tunes.

This isn't one of those Zappa albums I play that often, though I dig it. I like Wind Up Working In A Gas Station because, even though I'm a grad student, I like when people make fun of stuffy, college educated pricks. Plus, I like the stupid high pitched vocals that run throughout.

Anybody who doesn't like this album has probably only heard the CD version. I recommend the original vinyl version. Will likely change your mind.
