I've hated "Valley Girl" since I first started hearing it as a 12 year old in the early '80s. Does it sound better with age?

Frank Zappa's only US Billboard Top 40 hit. Billboard classified this as a novelty record. (Sorry.....no bullet.)

Valley Girl entered the Top 40 the week of September 4, 1982. It remained in the Top 40 for a mere three weeks, peaking at #32.

I'll take that as a no.

I heard Valley Girl just today and it was as entertaining as the first day I heard it.

I saw European Vacation when it was released in '85 and it was actually painful for me to watch the scenes with Moon 'cuz I hated that song so much.

Actually, I don't think I hated the song as much as the fact that EVERY SINGLE GIRL at school talked like that in the early '80s because of that song.

Does anyone happen to know what band/artist did that "Valley Girl" parody called "Valley Guy"?

"Silicon Valley Guy" by Don Data and the Res-Tones

I wish I could remember what I voted for in these polls. There's always 2 choices that are close for me.

Teenage Prostitute because the music is busy as hell in that interesting way that only Frank could truly master. Plus, opera singing on this song makes it hilarious.

I voted for TP too. I'm quite surprised it's only got 8% of the votes so far.

Listened to "Valley Girl" again for the first time in 25 some odd years. The music is cool but I still hate it.

It's gotta be because I grew up in Southern California amongst so many wannabe Valley girls who, to this day, have probably never set foot in L.A. County in their entire lives. But yes, musically, the song kicks ass.

I voted for I Come From Nowhere.

Yes, but I do like the fact that the song was so obviously created to make fun of girls like that and it wound up spearheading the Valley girl trend. Only FZ could've pulled that off.

I always wondered where "BUFU" came from. Never woulda guessed it was a Zappaism.

Now that I've given it a few listens, I gotta say that I really like "Valley Girl". Knowing that Moon and Frank were totally dissing that stupid fad makes me appreciate the song in a whole new light.

BUMP

I also vividly remember a girl (or 3) referring to me as "grody to the max" in grade school. That's probably another reason why I always hated "Valley Girl" up until this past year. It takes a LONG time to recover from that stuff.
