My friend had Apostrophe', and I really liked listening to it at his house. Not knowing anything about Zappa, I went to the record store and bought a cassette of The Perfect Stranger. I was a little dissapointed at first, but since I played violin in the high school orchestra, I could appreciate it on some level. Then it grew on me. Have them all now. 8)

my first zappa LP was trash picked from the neighbor...i noticed he was dragging loads and loads of milk crates full of albums to the street...i was dragging them back up my driveway as fast as he was taking them out...sort of funny really...
there was one zappa...overnite sensation...so that is officially my first FZ album...i think it was pre-1993 and there was lots of good stuff but just the one zappa...

When I was a very young boy, I used to browse the popular music sections of my local vinyl retailer.

One afternoon as I was flipping through the selections, I came upon a cover that pictured four men sitting/standing in front of a photographer's screen, one of whom had the look of the devil.

I said to myself, "There's no WAY this could suck."

So I took it home and played it. Wind Up Workin' in a Gas Station immediately verified I had been right and when Black Napkins came on my life was changed forever...

i'd only heard one zappa song ever, willie the pimp, bought this album and i was hooked after about 15 seconds of peaches.

Joe's Garage Act 1 was the first zappa album that I paid for with my own money. Summer of 1980.

I stole "Hot Rats" from my mom's collection.

But "Freak Out!" was the first album I actually bought, and is still my favorite.

Freak Out was first, quickly followed by Fillmore 1971, and 200 Motels. This was back around 1974. After 1980 or so, I lost most of my interest in Zappa, and only in the last 2 years have I begun to listen to all I missed. I appreciate his music more now, and have about 75% of the official releases.
