Yeah, a little pointless.

Once again the ZFT tease us with little morsels of FZ.

So, so sad.

Cue for Trendmongers Verbal Diarreah

I don't wanna be complaining and might sound a bit old fashioned, but I for one don't have the hots for downloading FZ (or other music for that matter...), I'd rather just have something to hold, a booklet to wander through and something that I can store in my collection.

Of course there is no telling what other FZ stuff will be available for downloading in the (near) future, but this first one doesn't do it for me.
I already own the original vinyl and also, this release has almost certainly been available for download on various other websites for years.
At least, I have seen it from time to time...

I'll give the Zappa's the benefit of the doubt and will look forward for upcoming downloads.
Hopefully there will be some really obscure and rare stuff in the pipeline...something that might make me reconsider my stance on downloading FZ material.

PS.

WHEN WILL DWEEZIL ANNOUNCE WHO THE NEW MEMBER OF ZPZ WILL BE ???

I mean, the Euro Tour is coming up...what's taking so long ???

hmmm..

The mothermania mp3 album costs $18
A single mp3 song costs $0.99
The album has 11 songs and 11 X $0.99 = $10.89.... :?

Did i miss something...

FLAC lossless

!  :|   Would you believe that??

I have kept swearing the ZFT loyalty oath for years, for a plethora of reasons
and against all ODDs ( :P ) and DMT debacles -- alas, these PENALTY PRICINGS
raise a few questions...

Do I have to opt out, or whot?

losing touch with reality...
Anyone have a clue what this is going to mean for future multiple-disc DDs?

These prices are way out of line with reality. As much as I would love to have a digital replacement for a noisey LP there is no way I would pay this price.
A reasonable price for a lossless download of a CD would be:

RP - MM - FC - PC - SC - MC = ??$

Where:
RP = Retail Price
MM = Middleman Markup
FC = Firmware cost (materials to produce a cd)
PC = Production Cost (what it costs to master and stamp a cd)
SC = Any mailing / shipping that would have occured
MC = Miscellaneous Cost (payola, lunches, etc)

I would guess that ??$ is about $10.

I'm oldschool. I don't do digital downloads unless it's something I can't get anywhere else and I MUST have. In this case, eBay has plenty of copies on vinyl. My audio preference to begin with.... I'll pass. I'd order a CD proper though.

For fuck's sake Gail, are you kidding???? I was ready to support any download release and pay out...but $25 bucks for FLACs of Mothermania??? I think you missed an opportunity to get some folks on the bandwagon for downloading. Hell, I signed up to Itunes after swearing I never would to support the effort and to get UNRELEASED material. As is stated, "All mixes are exclusive to this release EXCEPT Tracks 1, 3, 4, 9 & 11" ...I say that's quite a lot to pay for stuff that's already available. Now don't think I've overlooked that it's said that, "Vive la difference in the mastering. " Let me say that the ZPZ did an amazing, super amazing job with the original master of Freak Out! on MOFO. It beats the original vinyl, while sounding exactly as it would have done on wax (sans surface noise) with better than what 1966 had to offer, at least from Verve at the time. In Freak Out!'s case I'm mostly talking about the stereo separation on the remaster that trumps the old LPs.
As for MOTHERMANIA, I have two copies and they sound great. How much better can they sound with remastering? I'd like to know. But not for $25 for freaking FLAC files!!! I guess this'll be the first chance to hear "Absolutley Free" tracks as 21st Century remasters but I just can't bring myself to do it Gail.
GAIL..LISTEN...IT'S NOT TOO LATE....This release would have been perfect as a budget item. At a budget price you might attract far more people.
Maybe you don't care. I have no problem if you charge higher prices for downloads for all those folks here whining for downloads as long as you offer it to the grey-haired folks and tactile fetishists as a CD for a reasonable price. That being said, my credit card would be out for a new download only double disc size release (like "Buffalo") for $25 faster than you can say "'39 Chevy"!
It's not to late...CHANGE THE PRICE NOW!!!! We don't like feeling ripped off and now that I think of it, isn't one of those Mothermania mixes on MOFO already??? Maybe this is just a test to feel out what we'll actually pay for and I know plenty of folks have no interest in owning the LP. But with a little searching my Zappa Forum brethren you could score a copy for something like $25.
Bottom line Gail, I want this...but the price is ridiculous considering.
Happy Mother's Day to you and Moon!

Well, it's Mothers Day so I'll go easy.

Bottom Line: When someone inevitably hands me a cd burn of the Flac file I promise to mail Gail $10.00 cash.

Anyone who actually purchased this --- please immediately go and see a doctor -- today! I bet even Trendmonger is sane enough to stick with his 13 vinyl copies

For one who never had ANY version of Mothermania.....they are the same tracks from the albums yes? I haven't checked track times, but these aren't "alternative takes" right, just a best of that FZ was coerced into producng by a record co?

Hmmm, I just realized this means that I am no longer a completist.

Thank you for setting me free!

Hey - I still have this on vinyl and a homemade CDR. Once I find out if I can burn the FLAC copy - I'll go for this...instant gratification...more waiting or foreplay involved...no postage.

A little steep - 'sertianly" - overpriced - you bet...but where else can you get FZ quality music?

Happy Mother's Day Gail. Thanks!

While I do definately agree that the price for the FLACs is a bit high, I will still be buying this. I am doing this because I love the music and support all of the ZFT releases. Hopefully this will lead to more in demand type stuff.

I really do wish people would stop bitching soooooooooo much around here.
