The triplet reference is to "Boppa..Doayyy Do" not to the number of CDs.

You can probably get yourself a secondhand turn table for less money than the price of this release...
When i moved in 2008 i had a turn table but my preamp hasnt have a phono input and i didnt have space to bring the turn table to my new place so i put it in the garbage, it was a pioneer not really expansive.

I get the idea it is a single disc with the vinyl mix and some extra tracks.

On the subject of Ruben, what sort of related material could there be, other than doo-wop versions of other early numbers (like the sutff on

I'll be getting this one. Even if there is nothing extra but the original mix.
Good times.

In the Sky comes to mind right off the bat. They did other doowop type stuff that would fit in there.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 1, 2010 Printable Version
Zappa Records To Release 'Greasy Love Songs' CD May 1 Celebrating 1968's 'Cruising With Ruben And The Jets'

Another Anniversary Frank Zappa Audio Documentary project/object celebrating Zappa's 'Cruising With Ruben and The Jets.' The Doo Wop and Pachuco references mark this as Zappa's homage to the music and culture of his teenage world in 1950's Southern California. Contains Original 1968 Vinyl Stereo Mix, Interviews and Related Rarities.

"This is an album of greasy love songs cretin simplicity," says Zappa in the original liner notes for the album he produced in 1968. "We made it because we really like this kind of music (just a bunch of old men with rock and roll clothes on sitting around the studio mumbling about the good old days)." Joe Travers calls this release a "UMRK (Utility Muffin Research Kitchen) Boss First" - the original stereo mix, the original release.

'Greasy Love Songs' is due out May 1st on Zappa Records. Yes. The digipak is made from Metalyzed Polyester foil paper.

Among additional tracks included are alternate mono mixes, an unreleased cover of "Valerie" which enjoyed heavy rotation in the Mothers' concerts circa 1967 and a version of "Love of My Life" from Studio Z, bringing this CD from 40 minutes in the vinyl release to well over an hour of "the stuff of teen-age legend," according to Gail Zappa's text. "The thrall, the threnodies, the three and four part harmonies, the keys to the kingdom of sociological and panchromatic sexual edification." The package, #3 in the FZ Audio Documentary Series, also contains Cheech Marin's highly evocative liner notes recalling his 1968 audition for Zappa.

The Mothers of Invention per Frank Zappa's original liner notes on 'Cruising With Ruben and The Jets':

Ray Collins: lead vocals
Frank Zappa: low grumbles, oo-wah lead guitar
Roy Estrada: high weazlings, dwaedy-doop electric bass
Jimmy Carl Black and/or Arthur Dyer Tripp III: lewd pulsating rhythm
Ian Underwood or Don Preston: redundant piano triplets
Motorhead Sherwood: baritone sax tambourine
Bunk Gardner and Ian Underwood: tenor alto saxes

FROM "UP IN SMOKE"...

Near the end of the movie, Cheech says "We're gonna be bigger than Ruben & The Jets." This could be a reference to a doo-wop parody album recorded by Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention called "Cruising with Ruben & The Jets." Reportedly, the cover of the album confused many DJ's, and they thought Ruben & The Jets was the name of the band. Most likely, though, it was a reference to the (real) doo-wop band by the same name who formed after Zappa's album was released. They asked for his permission to use his fictitious band name, and not only did he agree, he produced the first album. Ruben and the Jets' singer, Ruben Guevara, appears in the film as Tom, one of the horn players in Cheech & Chong's band.

Nods a unica :D

http://www.shorefire.com/clients/zappa/#null

Nice find on the ZFT Shore Fire Media Press Release.
They certainly have been doing a good job with these press releases on several projects for several years now, dating back to 2008 I believe.

I would think the average fan around hear would have had a grasp on some of the project generalities I went over in my last entry.
Maybe some do but the many questions and some feeling the need to overindulge in butt wax agendas
shows me how little has changed for some in this Zappa.com forum school yard.
Not only is the packaging reaching another level of grandeur but Joe Travers term of "Boss First" really hit home on the Conceptual Continuity
of how the basic master is once again a different entity than FZs 1993 Approved Master that RYKO purchased the rights to distribute.
By no means are these projects just another industry REMIX. It's way beyond who does or does not have the original vinyl.
The scope of this project is in no way limited to getting the original stereo mix into the hands of those unfortunate ones sans the original vinyl .
The watermark is set of the composers development of the original project from so many different audio & visual angles over time
We even get Studio Z material here.
While some folks sit and spin their desires for a listing of new compositions where the Vaults feasibility is limited
the Anniversary Frank Zappa Audio Documentary project/object series is digging deep into original stereo mix,
alternate mono mixes, related periodic nuggets and interviews all packaged in an ever developing continuum in all of their radiant splendor.

This gal below certainly seems to have one of the keys as Gail Zappa states
"to the kingdom of sociological and panchromatic sexual edification."

Is it possible to order a copy without Gail's liner notes. I don't want anything to distract me from the music.

So about 20mins of extras?
Must have been slim pickings from that particular era.
Still, just to have the original mix is the tits.

Slim optimism is what some adhere to.
If we ever get a performance hybrid of Portuguese Lunar Landing are we going to say
wow it's only one song or wow we are getting pieces that are segmented together
of a composition that very well never had a full performance captured for feasible release.
It's all about the process of the composer more than finite measurements.

Why is it that some fans adhere to this concept where "lists & minutes"
are seemingly extreme relevant factors in looking at what they think this product
may be about in the pre-order stage or after they have been grooving to it for a while.

In the case with the Anniversary Frank Zappa Audio Documentary project/object series
be it if there is one, two, three or however many physical disks as being part the project
it more so represents the grandeur of Frank process than lists and minutes.

For years we have sat around this place talking about the extreme differences between the FZ 93' approved masters
and the original release. Here we not only get the "Boss First" but the mono mixes , interviews and nuggets
that date back to Studio Z. This in part is what makes the overall documentary aspect so representative of FZs work process
within his Project/Object.

When I sit down and listen to these audio documentaries , in addition where the packaging has been most diverse in digging into the regalia
of it all I have always felt like I was on a journey into FZs overall process. I say come along if you dare, unbind your mind and let the Audio Documentary
be your journey more so than the measuring tools that poot forth with ignorant want of lists of never before heard virgin compositions and physical disk time lines.

It seems obcvious to me a Hot Rats Doc is next on the agenda. We know there is a 20 minutes Peaches jam they are dying to release, and outtakes we all know of. Could be a monumental posthumous release! I have but one sentence to fantasise about the possibility of. A VARIATION ON THE GUMBO VARIATIONS!!! Imagine there's a second take lying in the vault!!!!!!

I don't believe it will be a 3-disc set, at least not according to this:
