OK, I don't post here, but this one I gotta - Ruben is one of my top 5 fave Zs. I bought it when it first came out, and at first I was disappointed in that it didn't have the wildness of the previous releases. Upon deeper listening, subtleties started coming out, and I realized the album was way more complicated than it seemed on the surface.
However if you are an absurd completist, you still need the original release. Why? If you listen to the original LP, in the silence of one of the track spaces between one of two songs on side 2, you can hear, very faintly and in the distance, Roy Estrada letting go with a pachuco falsetto "aaAAAAAAAAAaaaaaa..."
I haven't playe the LP in a long time, so I am not sure which 2 songs this occurs between. It is between YDTTCM and FOL, or FOL & NNN. Those of you with the LP, play it and you wil hear. Like I said , it is very faint, but it is there. I have owned 2 copies of the LP, so it is not unique. I don't hear it on the CD. Joe missed it!

I don't think Joe missed it. I hear Roy's "aaaaAAAAAAaaaaa" at the tail end of I'm Not Satisfied. It's on both the LP and GLS.

As I was putting this on Itunes to put on my Ipod, the tracking kept getting stuck on or around track 17 or 18 through to the end of the CD. This led to the last few tracks getting cut by a minute or two. I tried it another 4 times with the same hang-up around the same spot until it finally copied everything correctly. Weird, first time thats ever happened. I finally got it to import properly after about an hour of trying. Anyone else have this issue?

Otherwise, this disc sounds infinitely better than the 80's remix.

No problems here. The original "Love of My Life" is mind-blowing...Really weird to think about the Ron Roman version now that I've heard this....fantastic!

I haven't noticed that, since I'm still listening to things I hadn't heard before.

My copy is defective. Tracks 17 "Serious Fan Mail", 18 "Valerie", 19 Jelly Roll Gumdrop" and 20 "Secret Greasing" cut out at several points. The rest of the disc sounds awesome.

This is the first time I've ever experienced any issues like this as far as Zappa releases go.

Oh yes it is grand! Love of My Life from Paul Buff Studios/Studio Z is great (now it beats Tinseltown Rebellion which used to be my favorite version) AND the vocal separation is really cool too, you can hear each part.
