This thread was created because I wanted to talk about what´s the best version (or arrangement of Advance Romance).

My opinion:

Best version:
Boston ´76

Worst version:
Any version with Napoleon Murphy Brock (there, i´ve said it)

I always find it amusing when Ike says "drawers" right before the solo on YCDTOSA 3.

If the ZFT ever puts out a complete 88 concert it'd be good to get the "baseball" show from Bilbao excerpted briefly in this version.

And maybe the strasbourg show as a bonus. (dude, your work on the 88 tour project was fantastic!)

I like the new one, Philly '76.
(I'll go listen to the Boston pair)
"In-A-Gadda-Da-Poodle" -- HA!
I still like the new one.

I think my favourite may be FZ:OZ, due to the subtle keyboard playing of André Lewis, Estrada's bass playing and a good guitar solo. The solo on MAJNH is wicked also. I'm not such a big fan of the head and tail of this tune, and I think it's rather overrepresented in the catalogue. But the improvised sections are usually good.

I like the way the riff sounds when played on horns.

I totally agree.
YCDTOSA version is killer.
I always appreciated the live stuff.
Anybody hear the "corn" show from DesMoines(I think '81)?
"of course his evening aint complete without some CORN in the seat."

I like the MAJNH version, especially that riff the horns do during FZ's solo. But the Bongo Fury version is more raw and nasty sounding, plus Bozzio drums just kill me.
