I love the 'roxy' era band. They are amazing! The album is great too! Does anyone have any clue when the movie is going to come out? and would anyone recomend anything elsee from around that time? ive listened to apostrophe over-nite sensation and one size fits all. Anything else from that era?

You have stumbled on a powder keg my friend. Roxy - the movie - sits in the vault despite cries for it's release for years and years. It's not finished; there are tech issues about synching the image with the sound, and original tapes that fall apart if you look at them wrong, etc. etc. Gail says there's no budget for it. But it's the NUMBER ONE request.

There are a couple of clips somewhere on the FZ site, as well as on youtube. It's great. Will we ever be able to hold it in our hands and fetish over it? Only time will tell........................................

Try Bongo Fury, Zappa in New York and Studio Tan.

Uptonta. What you want is You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol.2. Entirely from Helsinki 74. Same band minus a drummer and horns. In my opinion it blows Roxy out of the water.

Not to mention the version of Inca Roads here with the unedited solo (the version on OSFA has this same solo but cut back immensely) just throttles the OSFA version. In fact, This CD throttles Apostrophe, Roxy, and One Size Fits All put together. THink I'm joking? Good luck!

For some strange reason I always think about a Chuck Berry documentary that I saw in a London cinema in the late Eighties whenever the possibility of a Roxy Movie comes up.

And those were the times when you could go to the Scala all-nighter and catch a screening of 200 Motels among 3 or 4 equally strange epics.

You can try and make some sense out of this 8)

to me they are different animals... Roxy is a warmer looser band (more fun)... Helsinki is a bit colder to me - but super tight and highly badass as well.

I dunno...I don't get cold from the Helsinki performance, I get a band that can play that material inside out and backwards, just sailing through it like a mother f*cker!

Roxy is a great album, but just too short...I'd be happy if they released the entire show, and left the DVD....

I play with those tracks, Roxy and Helsinki. There are parts of Roxy I never play and Helsinki is on two discs. Never really solved it, but it definitely is my favorite bunch of musicians. The OZ concert in comparison sounds sloppy.

Village of the Sun is much better on Roxy at the slow, sentimental tempo, but the rest of it I strongly prefer on Helsinki. Glad you enjoyed!

Wonder if they skipped the longer Cheepnis in Helsinki because it [Roxy] was directed more to the American trash movie watching audience? In any case the Helsinki Cheepnis is a little thin sounding. They did quite right do the Tango in Finland. Satumaa. So now we have two delightful tangos.

Stink Foot...I don't think there is a bad version of Stink Foot, I like them all. I think I should compile a Stink Foot only play list.

Inca Roads...prefer Helsinki to studio, the solo fits!

Wow! I totally disagree Tero! I absolutely love the Helsinki Cheepnis, it has such an energy to it. The Roxy version, while awesome as it is, and sounding great with all the overdubs, has always seemed way too laid back compared to the Helsinki.

true, Helsinki has a more authentic live sound, it is actually unbelievable how the band played in parts of it...very tight, maybe the smaller band affects that

The DVD was released in 1974 according to the entry I added at the Unencyclopaedia.

Have you seen any of Chuck's home movies, made in his restaurant bathroom?

Chucks escapades are little known. There was some noise here in Missouri, when he did his videos. One of the Rolling Stones books has him with some motel room activities. It was the one where the journalist followed the Stones tour as an insider, Berry was opening act.

this might be worth reading, but sounds serious and dry
