Inca is my favorite and won last time. I attribute it to Zappathy....not enough folks caring to participate. However, next time Son of Orange County/More Trouble will be entered as a single song and will be pretty competitive!

I think Watermelon is the odd one, not only in this competition but in the whole FZ catalog. Sure its great, as a guitar feature, a melody that is played on guitar and the solo section is nice. But, its hardly the solo of solos. I'd take several tunes before I'd pick it as best. It got its props from FZ as part of the Big 3 with BN and ZA, its on one of his most famous albums JG, and its really easy on the ear. It didn't make for a ton of great live performances, in fact it seemed like FZ played it live to please the fans rather than himself, and FZ often sounds best when he's doing something because he gets something out of it and maybe Watermelon was done as a composition that didn't leave room for growth. Even Inca, another overrated solo on the album imo, provided room to grow, expand and morph into other things while Watermelon was always Watermelon. I think that since it was soooo composed on the recording, he didn't feel free to explore with it live. He knew people wanted to hear it like it was on the record. Also, my fav FZ solos have some nasty in em and Watermelon is way too nice for that. Many of my favs were knocked out of the competition long ago, solos that challanged the ear as well as the performer. That being said, my only choice has to be...

Son of Orange Co

I begin to feel depressed now... I know the end is near...

I hear you Arkay. It's like wheels within wheels. There's the larger choice of FZ over more commercial options, feeling like a voice in the wilderness, and then having made that choice, appreciating the less commercial side of FZ and feeling like a voice in a distant corner of the wilderness.
