I hope that rumored 'Full-Ocean-is-the-Ultimate-Solution-Jam-as-a Joe's-Series' release was, well, not just a rumor.

I LOVE the Ocean is the Ultimate Solution, it is one of my favorite FZ guitar romps and is illustrative of his penchant for both inventiveness and unpredictability and development of an identifiable, melodic theme.

Same here, tweezers, I've always hoped that such a release might shed some light on a few gear discussions, e.g. about what kind of synh that opening line is coming from -- sounds paraphonic to me - is it the Synkey*? Oh my!

Wasn't this going to be a 2 cd set with the full Apostrophe' jam and full Zappa/Wackerman jam from whence Valley Girl came?

;)

A guy who thinks that sticking a balloon inside an album is not a necessary thing to do (and also driving the price up high) gets the usual rant from gz:

She is answering these things as they come in and she does have a point. She is pretty much right that bootlegs is bootlegs and stealing is stealing and I personally do not do it, but this is the new world and she can't stop it.

I do fetish hard copy of product, so I am OK with a release or two (or three or four) a year, the market has veered away from my philosophy and an article in Rolling Stone quoted a music exec who gives the CD "three years, not much more." It will all be a second-hand market through Amazon and for dirt cheap. Gail may be right, but her side (and mine) lost the war a long time ago.

There will be a secondhand market, but don't kid yourself - the CDs still in circulation will get more and more expensive because of the scarcity. CDs still can't be beat as a permanent storage medium for music, and discerning customers will realize that when they go away.

I have NO complaints about what the ZFT has released. They have done a swell job! Kudos to Gail and family...your hard work and effort and love of doing the right thing...this Zappa fan thinks you are the BEST and you're all doing a fine job. Can hardly wait for the next release but I will.

Dealers choice (I'd love another Petite Wazoo or a full 72, 73 or 74 Waterbury show) is fine.

I'm willing to pay more for the quality of the output!

Still buying lotto tickets...remember if I win...I'm gonna give the ZFT a call.

I wasn't complaining, just making an observation. I hope Dark Clothes is right, because I LOVE the CD format. You have to own thousands of them before storage space is a real problem. I own a 1 terabyte portable hard drive too, so I use both methods and have stuff duplicated for ease of transport.

I do think that the e-mailer to Gail has a point; like King Crimson, why not have a budget line of low-priced output that you don't spend a lot of money on cleaning up and let the people have the concerts they want. The better projects (the MOFOs) will sell just as well, but the ZFT may increase their income and that would provide more money for premium release development.

It is OK to have an opinion which differs from the popular set of beliefs.

Amen, Tweezers. All the ZFT has to do is make one concert available download only as a trial run. Then they can do the cost/profit comparisons and see if it's worth proceeding with more of the same. I would price the download the same way that King Crimson does: $12.95 for FLAC, $9.95 for MP3. And no fucking iTunes -- there is no need for a money-sucking middleman when releasing downloads. DIY.

C'mon, ZFT. Take a chance, and step out of your comfort zone.

This seems to say that she wants to buy back the catalog from Warner's or whomever owns it at this point. I really don't know what to make of that.

I will buy anything the ZFT puts out. That's the life of a completionist. But I have other interests too, so I don't really care how long it takes between releases. There will be a new one eventually, and it will probably be awesome. Worth waiting for.
I feel like it also
