Information about this album is scattered thinly around the forum and most of it's in a bit of a mess with formatting problems and so on, so I thought I'd give it a new thread.

This album is excellent. I don't want to start an argument about who does FZ covers better, but there's a lot of crap talked about non ZPZ bands being less than capable. There are quite a few outfits doing FZ covers to a very high musical standard. One of my favourites are Le Bocal.

This particular Grandmothers lineup is very professional, this would have been a great concert to see live. I like the way it opens with Hungry Freaks Daddy, a nicely arranged version demonstrating it's not a dated piece. I'd like to hear them do a total rework of all of the stuff on the first three Mothers albums.

I agree that ZPZ is not the only ensemble capable of carrying the torch. Unfortunately, most of these other "tribute" and "alumni" bands never, or hardly ever, play in my neck of the woods (Northern California). ZPZ, however, comes around alot and I'm grateful for that.

For what it's worth, the first track on this Don Preston CD was performed/recorded on the same night: http://www.crossfirepublications.com/works.html

This is the line-up that I saw (minus Sweetpants) here in the UK back in early '08. It may also have been a different drummer.
I saw and met Sweetpants (and JCB) back at a Grandmothers gig also in the UK in '97

No, it was the same drummer but a different guitarist (Miroslav Tadic).

Yes, it's a great album, but that was just an aside, it's not really the topic of this thread, though. Mind you, I just did a search on it and there's not much about it on this forum so I may start a thread for it.
