My "geekness" is having the officially credited artist in my iTunes. For all Zappa-related releases, I enter "Frank Zappa" in the Sort Artist field so I can get to them all when I want, but I like to know what exactly Frank was calling himself at the time of each release and put that in the Artist field.
For example... _Hot Rats_ is clearly "Frank Zappa", but on the cover of the album _Joe's Garage Acts I, II, & III_, you see just "Zappa". On the cover of _One Size Fits All_ you see "Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention" but on the cover of _Roxy & Elsewhere_ you see just "Zappa/Mothers". Are these the official release "artist names" for these albums? Sometimes on the vinyl LP, the artist name is different on label as opposed to it's own cover, so I don't know which to follow.
Does anyone know how to find the official artist name, or do you know them all? If you're interested in helping, I can list out the Zappa CDs I've purchased so far (probably only about 20 or so).
Thank you!
