First sketch:

It wasn't long before I realized I really needed a picture of a jukebox before I could proceed. On the Net there are pictures galore, but drawing with pencil and paper in front of the PC just doesn't work. I peeped into the 1950s sandwich bar not far from here, to see if they had anything that was a bit jukebox-y. Sure enough they had a radio in that shape, so I went in to take a closer look. Since the entire staff greeted me (they were assembled for a meeting with the head boss or something) I felt compelled to order something. With a Ben & Jerry's fudge icecream I drew their radio on one of their napkins.

Sketch 3. I realized that, without the window trick or anything, I wasn't going to get anything symmetrical. Also note the Zappa letters: it took some debate over which one looks best: with the Z at bottom left or at top right.

First mil paper sketch. This is also the one I copied using the glass table and torch onto the original.Note the figure on the right is the one on the top: the iron figure on the jukebox seemed abstract, and when I first drew the legs at the end it reminded me of Ralph Wiggum trying to get in his pajamas, but after the curls were done it suddenly looked a lot dirtier. I made a sketch to remind me of it since it woud be gone after I was done inking.

I didn't like how the Greasy letters were interfering with the top ornament, so I made a sketch from scratch to satisfy my jukebox needs (felt bad since I had to ruin the jukebox with all the grease) and to re-design my letters.

The Finished Product In All Its Greasiness.
