This looks like a good one. I had no need for the Monkeys either.

I wonder what the other release might be - 1973 band or Bat Chain Puller?

It's great that the concert here isn't available at zappateers. It means that nobody has heard this since the actual concert, except the ones involved in the releasing of it. And the aforementioned site has very few complete concerts from around that date, also. I'm excited!

Carnegie Pre Ordered, and I am so Happy I got Monkies, as it all part of the Conceptual Continuity, and I love Synclavier Zappa music. Thank You ZFT. Can't wait for further release coming soon. Bat Chain Puller would be ideal.

Whether the mentioned "Next Release Announcement" ends up being BCP (long overdue), a '73 era concert, or even better yet, another "Making Of" release, I'll order that too. This place would be buzzing big time if it ends up being a Making Of Hot Rats or Uncle Meat bomb the ZFT decides to drop on us.

A 4cd concert recording from this era is simply too good to pass up.

This is a big one, and I will surely buy it at some point, but haven't even digested Monkies yet, so I'll wait and see what comes up for Halloween + your reviews before order. It sure looks tasty, though... A full Sofa suite or two would be excellent. Does anyone have a set list?

Don't be in the dumps over the fact that it's mono, Norske -- I like good crisp mono a lot better than compromised (muddy) stereo. I knew he (FZ) had some mono recordings (not Carnegie, though) in mind for the improvisations section on the not-to-become-real JABFLA double LP version. Seems like he was a practical guy, after all, and not snobbishly going for the big 2'' recording or no recording at all -- Trendmonger, if you're reading this, digest and don't reply --

We will probably not see any setlist for some time, it's not on FZshows. But we know there's King Kong and Billy.

Also, some surrounding dates have (at least partial) setlists on FZshows, here's two of 'em:

1971 10 06:
A Pound For A Brown, Sleeping In A Jar, Wonderful Wino, Sharleena, Cruising For Burgers, Billy The Mountain, Mud Shark, What Kind Of Girl Do You Think We Are? (q: Liar), Bwana Dik, Latex Solar Beef, Willie The Pimp, Do You Like My New Car?

1971 10 13:
Sofa Suite, A Pound For A Brown, Sleeping In A Jar, Any Way The Wind Blows, Magdalena, King Kong, Peaches En Regalia, Tears Began To Fall, Billy The Mountain (incl. The Ballad Of Bilbo Baggins), Mud Shark

I bet CH includes all of these songs. And Call Any Vegetable too. I sincerely hope we're gonna get a version of Shove it Right in. I Wanna Hold Your Hand would be nice too.

Damn, the first Flo & Eddie era vault release. I like to get lots of new FZ at one time, so I'll wait until the next one is announced and then get everything at once: Monkeys, Carnegie, and what ever is next.

Muaaahahahahah!!!

Here we go again. No download option as usual

Notice how Kate Bush just announced her new album as she did for her Directors Cut project earlier this year. She announced it on facebook/twitter and the usual places. This creates a buzz. Then people can pre-order over at itunes or wherever and its made available on the predetermined release date. Buzz and excitement all round.

Why GZ continues to base her entire business on a hundred or so who frequent these forums is beyond me. They don't even have an official Zappa facebook page. Ok so maybe this announcement will gather 200-300 pre orders. But had they copied Kate Bush's approach (& everyone else with a gram of business sense) I'd guess we'd be talking thousands of pre orders. Of course, make a physical package available for those who want it but to dismiss the mainstream market is frankly insane.

By the way Gail, Monkies is already on the torrents as I predicted. I can't buy it as a download and I don't want the CD. Foolish, quite foolish

IMO GZ is living in the past. Probably doesn't really understand today's technology and finds the whole download thing intimidating and therefore buries her head in the sand and sticks to the old business model of CD's which we all know she's reluctant to even accept them (long live vinyl).

She's a bit like Polaroid cameras who failed to see that digital cameras had just replaced their business model with a much better solution for the consumer.

Don't get me wrong, I've plenty of wonderful music friends in their 60's or older who have the most vast and amazing music collections in physical formats. The thing they all have in common is they just don't get modern tech. That's fine. I know a day will come when I fail to keep up & as long as there is demand for physical product it should be made available but that customer base is shrinking and in my opinion is now less than customers seeking official downloads.

I just don't understand how GZ can not get this?
