hmm. i got psyched when i heard about this, thinking it was already out by now and i could go to my local record shop and get one. ok, guess i'll have to wait. but this is a big step forward for Beefheart's unreleased music. as previously mentioned, vault releases of him are much more of a blue moon type thing than Zappa.

It's a lovely Friday morning here in beautiful Oslo. In Los Angeles it's still Thursday, towards midnight. The efficient people at Barfko-Swill and Music Today are turning in after a hard day's work, satisfied with all the important things they have done during the day. Some of them have perhaps planned to go downtown, maybe even snort some blow and party all night, but most of the executives are responsible family people who look forward to a full 7-8 hours sleep. Meanwhile, in beautiful Bagdad, erh, I mean Oslo, Dark Clothes is yet again biting off all his finger nails in hyped up, frenzied expectation for the NEW CAPTAIN BEEFHEART RECORD, and as so many times before, he asks himself: "Is this going to be the day? Is this the day of my shipping notice?" Hooo-haah, POTRZEBIE and furshlugginer blintzes - I'm going MAD with suspense :!:  :!: Give me that BCP, boy  :!: :!:

I contacted the company shipping out this gem and this is their response.

The CDs are shipping today per the client rep only if the expedited shipping was chosen. I believe international orders will be shipping out the beginning of next week. Transit time for international standard shipping is 8-24 business days. Sorry for the wait. Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. Have a good weekend.

So it looks like a go.

Look, certain people are fully behind downloads and that is cool for them. The rest of us like physical product, and obviously we have to be understanding.....

Oh, I took adverb's comment to meaning that nobody buys music anymore because of delays. You can still have delays in downloads being available as well. Granted, much less so but none-the-less.

:!: :!:

you shoulda included the on-board gps tracker shipping option, only an additional $149.95, they stash a gps in every package, you can track that sucker within ± 20 meters ... for an extra $899.95 you get the spy-grade tracking option with interference-suppressed multi-path mitigated [5.5 Hz] geodetic-quality positioning utilizing a compact tri-band phase center stability ... unsurpassed accuracy, you'll know every ¼-second where that cd is to within ± 45 centimeters

what's another 900 bucks for a bit of peace of mind, ya know

No notice, but account says shipped Friday, three-day weekend likely means I will get it Wednesday.

ok -
My cocktail consists of Rye & Peychauds bitters with REAL Absinthe to form ingredient and measurement a Manhattan Parisian. Van Gogh painter approved! Appropriate.
I will give a commentary to the original - this is not an A/B, just what I was used to hearing against what I am hearing now.
Bat Chain Puller - leaner and meaner
Seam Crossed Sam - this is why CB is amazing - so much creativity so fast. This is the CB I love - sto-sos as Ed Sanders called them - Story songs - sounds like keyboard fighting guitarist in a Peon fest.

Harry Irene - easier going, not as produced (stiff) as the later version, very friendly. More natural than the original. Makes ya smile! CB as an avant Bing Crosby? Not too far out-
81 poop hatch--serious - very emotional poetry spoken with early childhood memories, very visual remembrances, followed by beautiful solo lonely guitar. So much regurgitation of early childhood affects . Doesn't that effect us all?
I am 3 tracks in - this blows the "original" release out of the water-

Flavor bud Living-
leaner-meaner better!
Floppy Boot Stomp - much faster and keyboard ridden - I actually prefer the later one
Seems the vocals on these are mixed way to the front - OK with me!
Drier mix - good desert mix overall
Ah Carrot - aH beautiful...keyboard
Owed' T Alex -Great mix like all of this - very in your face dry. Damn Great GUITAR! Possible Johnny Cash on A
'Cid toon? The guitar greatness - visions of Ry Cooder on this

Odd Jobs - new one to me! Spoken Vocal over brilliant sounds "Hobo ain't been around for awhile!" Singing it in!
GAWD! I spoke too soon - This is in there with Big Eyed and Veterans - amazingly hot progression

Human Scrotum Pole - brilliant - very different take - time changes everything

I won't say it is better or worse than what was given out. It is different. Pick your preferences. Cuz Gawd didn't thinmk to ask his preferences. Cuz everybody made him a boy .....you get the idea

Odd Jobs

affects/effects, never could get that shit straight-
SPOKE TOO SOON - extras include Hobo-Ism. If you dug China Pig, you will dig Hobo-Ism - same deal..CB will continue to be an inspriration.

Oh yeah - it's not even minimalist, just ugly -- I wish they had consulted someone who knows about font styles

AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

THANK YOU, ZFT for a labor of love.
Probably the best packaging from the ZFT yet (not including Civ3).
Definitely the best liner notes without doubt, including GZs touching anecdotes.
I nearly wept.

ps and if ya don't know, they used Don's original mix, as it should be.
