On Rockline, Gail dropped the nugget of info that the ZFT trust will expand the Zappa catalog up to 100 titles this year. She said Carnegie Hall was title 91 and mentioned Bat Chain Puller and Wildman Ficsher as upcoming releases. I don't know if the birthday bundle counts as an catalog release, but it looks like a very busy release schedule this year with at six more titles this year.

Unless, of course, I heard it wrong...

I have also heard her say that. But this year probably means this and next and maybe one more in gailspeak

Buffalo Voice, the voice of optimism. If there's a release that I still really care about getting hold of it's Dance Me This.

Do I have to get the Old Masters boxes and Have I Offended Anyone? to complete my collection? Or is that insane completism? When I don't even have all the CDs (Waka Jawaka, Roxy & Elsewhere and Zoot Allures, for instance - have them on LP and cassette - not CD). Anyone else bothered by the inclusion of the Old Masters boxes in the official list? In a big way or just slightly? Not at all? Am I asking too many questions? Or is there a Q that I left out?

Yeah, probably too many questions... so let's ask some more! :)
I like consistency, so do you think there should be 2 entries for MOJO? I don't, UNLESS they include other mini-versions (even with unique material) such as YCDTOSA Sampler.

http://www.lukpac.org/~handmade/patio/misc/offended.html
some of the old masters LPs seem to be essential (cause identical to the old CDs), others not, detailed infos on the vinyl vs. CD entry of each album

This doesn't even approach it. There's some that try to collect all the foreign releases also. (Jayp if I remember correctly.)

qualifies as insane completism IMHO
the completists guide also includes a link to those special fields of interest:
http://lukpac.org/~handmade/patio/weirdo/
for example: Happy Mother's Day [choccolate, not playable] http://lukpac.org/~handmade/patio/weirdo/weirdo.html#choccolate,IMHO not esseintial for normal completist

Clearly so many of the cackling hens on this forum poot large doses of negativity towards the ZFT and my support. 100 Official Releases are on the way. I have never stood for any of the extreme negativity since day one of this website and even in this short topic there are so many questions that seem quite negative. I have given clues of a new project series on several occasions and the best we get is a typical negative JAYp STFU response. Wake up folks Gail Has Spoken. A new series is on the way!

I will always support the ZFT and the more I hear the cackling hens the more the divide between the so called negative fans and myself gets. When the new Vault Series gets released I am sure the cackling hens will be ready. Did anyone even take notice of Gail mentioning that a new series is on the way? It was gracious for her to drop a brief mention.

As I have said time and time again I have been expecting a new concept series. Expanding ZAPPA OFFICIAL DIGITAL DOWNLOADS? With some new name, A recent Gail Zappa clue on Rockline would lead to the following possibility for naming of the series, "Frank Zappa, In The Moment" ??? Hmmmm? Look back and digest my projections. My expectations is a new show from Euro 73', this show will help connect the dots of the "Elsewhere" and but also the Roxy Soundrack, the DVD up to KCETV... and that is only one little part of what this new project series may be about. Imagine if you will this one 73" Euro Show being one of many straight from tape, transferred and ready for download. The Knight In Shinning Armor to your Emotional Rescue.

I started to speculate about the official release thing and came to similar conclusions to most of the above. For example, I really don't get having official release numbers for the Old Masters boxes. They're not new albums. I count the three SUAPYG discs as one album. Similarly Vol 1 & 2 of LSO. I understand that release numbers are an at the time thing, but we've had plenty of time to review all this by now.

Neither the SUAPYG box set, the JG 3 volume version nor the LSO double volume version have release numbers but the Old Masters boxes do????

For anyone just finding out about FZ those numbers don't really tell them about the actual number of his unique albums. Okay, anyone finding out about FZ has work to do and that's part of the fun I suppose (suppose? ... I know for sure).

Personally, I calculate thus: Civ Phaze 3 is official release #63. Then -3 for Old Masters, -1 for separate Joe's Garages, -2 for separate SUAPYGs and -1 for separate LSOs. That's 56 albums. Add Lost Episodes, Have I Offended Someone?, Mystery Disc, Trance-Fusion and Dub Room Special and that's 61. If I'm telling anyone about FZ I basically say he created about sixty albums, several of which are multi disc efforts and that there are a little over 20 archival and anniversary releases. That's a squidge over 80 albums. Still pretty damn remarkable without needing to exaggerate.

I have all the CDs, to listen to, but I don't collect. I have a heap of vinyl, including the YCDTOSA #1 sampler, but they're left over from the pre CD days. None the less, his oevre is not yet fully represented. For example, we need Dance Me This and there are other projects, such as the full Outrage at Valdez sound track and the orchestral Sinister Footwear performance which ought to be on official releases.

As far as actual unique stand alone FZ produced albums (meaning almost all new compositions), I make it at about 42. Caveat: I'm well aware there was much more to this man FZ than that.

No complaints about the Old Masters, but I don't have them and don't consider them essential. FZ considered them to be releases, that's good enough for me.

that's the crux, if you aren't compelled to buy those boxes, they aren't essential; for a regular completist as defined by lukpac.org, none of the old masters version stand-alone ... in response to how many zappa albums do you have ¿, ' all 91 official releases ' has a nice ring to it, without the om qualifier, but dc, like, seriously bro', break down & buy have i offended someone¿ like, wtf]

that lukpac chart is also subjective; if you don't need the extra drum beat on the intro of the re-mixed version of whatever, then don't worry about it; someone should take a wack at updating the lukpac chart at least up thru mothermania incorporating the recent anniversary albums ... some of those yellow boxes would go away, or move out of completism & over to collectors, or insane collectors with 54 [& counting] versions of chunga's revenge

DC (breaks down, crying, cackling hen-like): Yes, master, I will, I will, before the next closing of the eons!!! Even if I have all the songs on there... 8)

A cackling hen is synonymous with "Zappa knight with some lightheartedness and self-irony" - a special distinction handed out willy-nilly in the spirit of FZ's lugubrious dog breath after 16-18 nicotine/caffeine-fuelled hours of work.

It's a great day today, Wikipedia is DOWN, maybe people wanting some information will come to Official Websites..., Just maybe today will be the day where Gail will grace us with a little more information on the new concept series.

But then again, maybe not, so continuing with the TREND of dialog on the forthcoming new Frank Zappa VAULT Concept Series, if fans have been taking notice to all these Vaulternative & Zappa records releases, lots of time and money goes into producing these works from the vault, be it if they are completed or somewhat completed projects by FZ, Audio Documentaries, Full Live Shows, Corsaga, .....have we as fans taken notice to the fine work at Audio Mechanics?, please remember to add that into cost feasibility.

Well, it's clear for some time that these high production cost projects have been the main release medium, CD with all the regalia . Maybe some have watched the Vault Tours, all those tapes in so many formats, the ZFT having to go out and purchase or repair machines to even play some of those formats . With all the excavation that Joe Travers has been doing. Is that going on some 13 years now? So in time, take a look at how that all progresses. Like I said, lots of time and money. So many CDs are produced of each project, by my guesstimate 6,000 pressed, how many are sold?, whatever the feasibility quotient for any given project, where many of us hope the ZFT have a return on investment to give us more projects. I for one have absolutely no problems with the results so far, surely each fan has their own favorites, want lists and yearnings for whatever format but in the excavation, the many things that are found not only in the Vaults but what about the sounds lurking from the Front Of House of any given space and time. Playback Waffenspiel from Civilization Phase III for layered clues..., Okay now lets go to the back of the house, maybe some have seen all the dada art that exists there. Transport to Greenwich Village and hear Frank, Gail & Moon and “Really Little Voice” from Lumpy Money/Project Object has meaning in that space and time. Can we not see that 1967 has deeper meaning than the release dates of the projects. They live in the Vault but they all come from a space and time. Simply put maybe Gail wants to give us lots of FOH tapes, tape transfers to download, a new addition to the project and format types that we already have.

So if you made it this far is it really necessary to always dig deep in the conceptual continuity, Sure from a give perspective that is all so much of the big note. Many are always looking for ways to connect it all, I have spoken of the new series, in part, connecting a 73'Euro show to KCETV, but what if some are asking if there is a simpler way to get live shows released, from a given Front Of House. Maybe it will have all the Audio Mechanics work or maybe it will just be a Tape Transfer to Nuendo and mastering it for Download. Maybe some fans will be happy about that production model.

On my part it has all been speculation, whatever this new Concept Series is, in time we will see what that is all about. It's all speculation, there is no need to fire up the cackling brigade because if a fan want to be optimistic there is so very much to be optimistic about. Then again there will always be cackling hens. Regardless of the Cackling Hens Quotient I have a premonition that we are going to have a way to connect the dots to specific space and times far more easier than the progression since the vault doors were opened over a decade ago. I think Carnegie hall was a sampling of that, that was definitely In The Moment, Gail gave us clues a long time before that one was released but the time and money taken to make that sound as good as it is, well that is why the clues come out one year and the release may take considerable time to get it to market. There is a wonderful reason for the traditional large scale investment in many of the projects. Still I see many fans just want more things as fast as they can get them, where they ask for DOWNLOADS, so just maybe, as I have been projecting for some time, we may be getting a concept series of full live shows or whatever is as close to a full live show as the tapes allow. DOWN TREND, DOWNLOADS GET THE PICTURE?
