nice letter, poly, wonder what tremendous cost translates into ... & yes, just joking on the 42-count

The only special thing about the threesome is the cardboard wrapping - the CDs themselves are the ordinary 1995 Ryko editions. Which reminds me of FZ's comments about "cardboard fetishists" - and I know I'm one...

But LSO could count as at least three releases - both mixing and sequencing of the Ryko 2CD are radically different. And then there's the early single CD...

ok, the threesome comparison is not appropriate, but radically different sequencing/mixes could apply to a few others, ziny cd is remixed/re-sequenced & has ~39 minutes of extra material over the original ~61 minutes; totally new album

The CD Broadway The Hard Way is another example. It's a mighty package of music. One of my favourite FZ albums.

When I first got into Zappa, the rumour was that the next album after Joe's Garage was going to be called Fred Zappelin. Then we heard the title Crush All Boxes. You know what happened to Crush All Boxes, but does anyone know if Zappa ever compiled an album called Fred Zappelin? I've read somewhere that it was going to have material that later appeared on SUNPYG, Tinseltown Rebellion and YCDTOSA.

The title itself was dropped after John Bonham died, apparently.

Dark Clothes, I thought it's actually Crush All Boxes itself, that was to be called Fred Zeplinnn. Recording took place ca. August /September 1980. The next thing that happened was that Bonham died (9/25, or thereabout), and it was considered not that good an idea under these circumstances to release an album with this title, apparently .

BTW, additional useless information from me as always:

- the title Crush All Boxes is still visible on the Tinseltown Rebellion front cover
- wasn't Fred Zeppelinn the tour motto of 1980?
- my favourite unused album title is: Arrogant Mop for Joe's Garage

No way they release 9 more CDs by the end of 2012 :) . I'd love to see it, but don't have much faith. Maybe this includes downloads, which isn't my thing. Keep those for the birthday bundles.

I would love to see Chalk Pie, it's mostly release material, but it alleviates the curse of SATLTSADW being the best/worst album, all the good tracks, no shitty vallery girl, clownz on velvet. Easily my favorite album, and it wasn't even officially released.

Do you have the extended studio version of Dinah-Moe?

I'm sure this is opening me up for ridicule on here but I don't see it - where?

FZ later said Al DiMeola denied permission to release his solo on "Clowns On Velvet." I believe others have mentioned that Al has said more recently he doesn't remember that, so perhaps someday it will come out.

Look at the background behind "Tinseltown Rebellion". The solid areas in the dots is where the "Crush All Boxes" has been coloured over.

Do I need it? When Dynamo Hum is the song I routinely skip on the Vaulternative full show releases... Plus I said songs, not versions...

In my opinion? Yes! In yours? Clearly not.
I'd also say the version of Goblin Girl on there is another "must have". It's a joy to hear other versions of the tunes you've always already heard played to death. Again, my 2 cents, not yours.

Take it easy, Penguin - the question was real, not rhetorical. And I will get this album at one point - ripeness is all, you know. But I haven't played Goblin Girl to death yet, and there are some other albums I want to check out first...

Oh, don't you fret DC - I'm definitely taking it easy!
Yeah, by no means an essential release but hearing audio where audio wasn't before in Dinah-Moe is "reason enough" for me. All in due time though, my friend.... :smoke:

This is what all the CDs look like on a shelf. Currently I call this "From Cucamunga to Carnegie".

On the far left is the Cucamunga CD, which I realise is unofficial, but it kicks it off nicely, there's also a burn in there in a blank case of the Mothermania download (yes, I paid for it). This includes one copy of all the official CDs, but no repeats. I have multiples of several of them, but they're shelved elsewhere. For example, there's LSO 1&2, the double version, so neither of the singles is on that pic, the separate LG and WOIIFTM are there, so the twofer isn't in that pic and so on.

My only complaint? There are some very thin ones at the end, barely showing in the pic and hence not displaying their full splendour. Please ZFT, stop it with the thin ones. (And please, no Trendy lecture on why this might be a politically incorrect request).

So, in a year's time I will have to post a new pic with another 9 albums on the right?
