Good point HJ. Hopefully in late June the re-emergence of product should have a salutary effect.

Which label will they be on and who is distributing them? If they're only going to be sold cottage industry style direct from the zappa.com website, then it's a pretty pointless exercise. They really need to be made available to the masses again, in all the stores.....this is potentially great news though!

According to this site - http://theseconddisc.com/2012/04/19/freak-out-early-zappa-classics-coming-from-universal/ - they will be released by Universal, so, if that's true, they should be broadly available.
I can't find announcements for it anywhere though, so I guess they'll fail the June date?

Anyway, I sure hope the reissues will come eventually and that the rest of the Zappa catalogue will follow soon as there are still several albums I don't have (I'm definately born too late :)).

Thanks. Now we know something. The roll-out of the first 12 in original order of release does indicate that they will all come out. No information on extra tracks, but let's face it, there is likely nothing left to release from the Freak Out or WOIIFTM/LG era that didn't come out with MOFO or LM.

Hopefully this means that the ZFT will make an announcement too.

You and me both, my friend. The ZFT seems to have a thing going with several different mastering engineers, some of them good and some of them not so good. Let's hope they choose the good for this occasion!

I believe the Stones were mastered by Stephen Marcussen and Steward Whitmore
at Marcussen Mastering in Hollywood CA.

Steel Wheels, Dirty Work, Undercover and Bridges To Babylon give me "ear fatigue after a bit...

The waveforms are much more compressed than the Virgin copies as well.

Stay with the Virgins

oooh yaaa!

Once again no useful official information for the potential customer. Just buy – don't ask! Must be a very smart marketing strategy I don't understand because I am too dumb.

If they really have some improved remasters in the pipeline, it would have been a good opportunity for Joe Travers to give some serious informations when he showed up recently. But again he didn't – and decided to play some people for suckers once more instead.

Disappointed -
Thinman

To be fair T-Man, Joe did say he is not a spokesperson for the ZFT.

Without information, it will be hard for the ZFT to get us fanatics to buy the products over and over again.

and another thing.... the original date was June 26, 2012. Now it's pushed to July 31. WHY?

Nice to get confirmation, but it is a bit early to expect re-master details, I think.
Expect the completists to provide every imaginable detail upon release and then make your decision.
Me, I'm hoping I don't have the burning desire to re-buy this stuff. That's a lot of bread when ya multiply x 60. I'm always happy with the largely negative wishy-washy reviews of remasters (Kraftwerk, Can, Beefheart, etc) that tell ya just to stick with what ya have.

You are right brainpang, we will wait and see what information we get. I am not buying all that over again. I may pick up one or two, but that's it. I bought it on vinyl and I bought it on CD (and two copies of HR because one was a gold disc), I just pray that the catalogue gets enough promotion that the uninitiated check it out.

don't forget.... a lot of the catalog was already released 2 times on CD by RYKO and BP thru Capitol. so this would mean a lot of us would be buying the same shit multiple times

those are only the Abkco's. the Virgin remasters are the ones done by Stephen Marcussen and Steward Whitmore.
