Before Trendy evaporated I had a discussion with him about the Coltrane box sets I'd bought recently (5 or 6 discs, a great book, and a really nice box/book thing to hold it all). They were about £30 each.
To have a slightly more contemporary angle on this I recently got 'Contain Us', an 8 disc Devin Townsend set, again with a groovy book, and a gorgeous slipcase. (£80). This artefact was limited to maybe 1000 units, so I imagine the audience for it would be in the same ballpark as that for keen Zappa fans.

How is it that Townsend's cottage industry can produce great 'product' and sell it to the target audience, with minimal bullshit, when the ZFT struggle to get stuff out there. Surely they should hire professionals to run the actual business.

Frank Filipetti, who is keen to ruin virtually any multitrack recording you hand him, costs a lot of $. I can't fathom why they didn't protect Hammersmith from his hands again at a time when even the vaultmeister himself admitted online in a roundabout way that Buffalo was a sonic debacle.

Can anyone at ZFT headquarters be so kind and put O'Hearn's bass track up for download, I'd be willing to integrate it back into HO for free.

I'm all sick of hearing how true everything is to the artist's intent and how every afford has been made...etc., and then having to face nonsense mixes/masters like #80 and #89. Grrrrrrrr ...

Uh, so it was my funny german vernacular, probably. I find it kind of spectacular that Big Pfunk doesn't seem to have a problem with O'Hearns absence from the HO mix. He's proven many times before that he's got a pretty good ear, in spite of drumming a lot.

Geez, with 2012 almost halfway gone, it's just sort of the right time for looking forward to this year's birthday bundle

Gail Zappa's Birthday is January 1, so maybe we should not hold our collective breaths.
