Not sure of the specifics on how that works, but the only promotion the Dead do is on their website...they promote products they are selling. ZFT does not. Because the Dead do this, releases are talked about in the media. Free promotion.

Nothing is Free.
But I am done now. It is pointless discussing this.

It is basically free to promote one's own product on one's own website. Other media then pick up on it and discuss it. For free. Fairly basic concept.

Sorry you find the discussion pointless. I think it is an interesting one to have, and find it especially interesting that some people are satisfied with the current state of affairs. Oh well. Back to waiting for RBP......................................................................................................

Fuckin' thing will show up and most will forget about what the hell just happened for the last 3 months.

Some wont forget. But my money is on the music dropping a deep thick memory wipe onto everyone's brain when its finally here.

Of course! By then we'll be so old our memory capability will be shot.

I'd like to have anything and everything related to the FZ 1973/74 band, however, I'd like to know what exactly I'm getting on this new yet-to-be released CD Roxy By Proxy. Is this a complete recording of one specific date? Is this a compilation of the various Roxy dates (how many shows within how many days exactly, can anyone clarify please?), much like the Roxy And Elsewhere double album is? Is it the equivalent of the yet-to-be released DVD's soundtrack album? What exactly?
This is the main reason why I prefer to wait for the actual release and read up on it and not buy in pre-order. I've bought with Barfko-Swill since back in the late eighties, although it's been quite awhile since I did again (I think the last thing I got from them was the Hammersmith Odeon concert) but never had a problem with their service. Reading from this messageboards, it would seem that the service has gone rather south. Deep south by the judge of things.
I'm definitely waiting for things to be released before I send in for them.

Regarding the earlier mention of charting titles, one has to submit those numbers to Soundscan in order to be counted. I'm not sure the ZFT or Dead & Co. even care about that.

As for 'popular,' Zappa is certainly a household name...more so than say Eric Dolphy or Mike Keneally.

As far as I can tell, the ZFT is a riddle wrapped inside an enigma.

I posted that info to demonstrate the paltry sales of the record industry.

Even Doonesbury's Zonker Harris understands the basic principles:

Wow. I just clicked on the pre-order button for RBP, just for shits and giggles. Last time I checked it said it would be shipping "on or about Dec. 20," and that was still up there on Dec. 29th.
Now I got this:

The Barfko site is back up. It's been redesigned.

Yeah, I just went back and looked at it again. It says "Items in this department are available for pre-order and will ship on or around December 20, 2013."

Cool, so if I preorder RBP today, it will ship last year? That is awesome.

It's delivered by a guy that slaps you upside the forehead and says "McFly?!"

Brilliant. Once again I'm amazed at the oversights happening. Redesign a site and not update any of the info. Too good for words.

FWIW, the redesign happened a couple weeks ago.

This might be true if consumers got so disgusted that they didn't buy RBP. But they will. Maybe casual fans will say fuck it, but not most.
