Amazing... This is the FZ record that melted my brain...

The cover reminds me of:

It's gonna be pretty, can't wait for this one. It took about four tries to cut the lacquers without the 1630 tape just intermittently having audio drop outs. Thankfully they were random and not tape damage as it is THE ONLY MASTER. Playing directly from the tape sounded better than past transfers of it. So we cut directly from the 1630 3/4" Master tape........

I hate having doubles but I gotta own this one. I'm banking on it being a fake limited edition.
Best FZ cover art since Thing Fish.

Killer. The yellow vinyl should be so cool.

I totally get owning this because of the cool new art & limited yellow vinyl, but why on earth would you buy a digital recording in an analog format? Seems pointless.
It's not going to sound better than the CD. No way, not ever. The first person to review this release who says it sounds much "warmer" gets a solid kick in the nuts. :)

it has been mastered for vinyl, so it will sound different than the cd

In 1986 Zappa was still with EMI & they weren't putting his stuff out on cd in the US so that explains the "originally intended for vinyl", however it's a new transfer so it might sound different.

Weren't PCM's kind of like DAT & ADAT in that it's a short-lived format that was killed off by hard disk recording?

The Vault is like a history of recording technology but I imagine preserving all those formats & maintaining or finding the right equipment is taking a few years off the Vaultmeister's life. :D

Isn't HDD recording done in linear PCM or other loseless format?

Ah, yr right. Always forget that art. Probably 'cause it screams to be on an LP sized cover.

Yeah oops, when I said PCM I was referring to the actual model name of the Sony PCM 1630 system & Sony DMR 2000 tape deck. It used U-Matic tapes which are similar to Betamax.

My copy is #181 :smoke:
I was quite pleasantly surprised to see 3 or 4 other copies at my local record store.

Received it, admired it, played it.... enjoyed the whole experience greatly.

I must say that this colored disc, housed in this great cover at Lp size, is is a wonderful piece of art in itself. And a fantastic addition to the Zappa vinyl canon.
Keep 'em coming !

:)

Haven't heard this one but I like his Synclavier stuff. I ordered this yesterday from Amazon. Hoping it'll be killer. Love the art and design. Universal do really good work with Vinyl.
