Has anybody bought that cd/DVD/ memorabilia set listed on the Idiot Bastard's site? Any reviews? The Beefheart set as well.

I've always felt sketched out about Bannister. Isn't he selling bootleg recordings with the DVDs and CDs?

I don't know. Those are the kind of questions I would like answered. On the surface it looks pretty intriguing but without any idea of the quality or what exactly it is I'm not buying. I've always kind of drooled over that '78 Knebworth lineup as all those bands were big favorites of mine - Zappa, the Tubes, Peter Gabriel, Boomtown Rats, and Rockpile. I've never seen a concert lineup more tailored to my personal tastes (especially of that time). I might have to take a chance on a poster at least .

I've heard an AUD recording of the '78 Knebworth Zappa set on a bootleg called "Rubber Slices." The sound quality is shit, but the performance was awesome. That was a great fucking band. And they opened with "The Deathless Horsie." How cool is that?

I'd love something from the '78 Knebworth band era. Maybe there's enough material for a Philly '76 type CD in the vault for a release. One can wish or ask The Vaultmiester. :D

That's a nice find Downer, thanx manx, I'm listening to it now. 8) :D

Zappa recorded virtually everything

I can't believe a 'proper' version doesn't exist in the vaults.

Can you...?

As I understand it, the discs are given away free with the sets - so they're not being sold as such. They seem to be audience recordings.

I don't know what the status of these recordings is. Bannister has been selling stuff like this for years and there is material from several other bands available via his website. The certainly are not ZFT approved but as ZFT have, as far as I am aware, not taken any action to prevent the sale of these I guess Bannister must have some sort of rights to them. The site sells similar packages featuring Todd Rundgren, The Stones, Pink Floyd etc so they'd be taking an enormous risk marketing this stuff if they didn't have the right to do so.
The music/dvd's are not actually being sold they are included as a gift with the other memorabilia so maybe that is the loophole or perhaps Bannister sneaked something into his contracts back in the day that gave him rights to recordings of shows he promoted?

If it's stuff

It's been on line for around 10 years and still "Produced in a limited edition of 200" though that do sound like a Ryko Scam
Chrome Dreams used FZ covers,UK firm that make Rubbish 8)

@Cleon I disagree that you can just write Chrome Dreams off as making rubbish. Some of their stuff is good. Let's face it, there's only one official documentary in the sense that it's fully produced by the ZFT. There's room for plenty more.

As for the topic. In the current climate, I'm not paying for a bootleg. There's a big difference between making a well researched documentary involving people with expertise in various relevant areas about a famous person and just selling unofficial or illegal bootleg audience tapes.

My question above was perhaps misunderstood. Does this package include recordings that were made with FZ's explicit permission or that have since had explicit ZFT approval?

If not, I'm not buying them.

It does look good Poly, but I didn't take the plunge because I couldn't determine if it was FZ-approved
