Does anyone know why VC doesn't play on YAWYI? I've always loved him on JG, but was disappointed to hear TTR where his drumming really doesn't stand out. Then last week I listened to Buffalo for the first time and his drumming blew my mind: absolutely stunning. Was David Logerman a late replacement or something? It seems odd that he appears, plays one album, then is never heard of again. Or is that not accurate?

To recap the story you can get from the links above, Vinnie was going to be on the spring/summer 80 tour but left to do studio work and David Logeman did the Zappa tour and the YAWYI album instead. (Confusing things a bit more, YAWYI wasn't released until a year after it was recorded.) Then for fall 80 Vinnie was available again so he returned.

I don't agree that Vinnie's playing doesn't stand out on TTR. "Easy Meat" and "Pick Me I'm Clean" in particular have great playing from him and check out the fill at the beginning of "Panty Rap."

Thanks for posting that! I remember being at home WAY back, and waiting to take my mother somewhere (but couldn't until she finished watching her "story") and seeing David Logeman's name on the rolling credits at the end of General Hospital, and thought.. "could it be the same guy"?!?! This proves I wasn' seeing things! (and in the 80's that was HIGHly possible!) :smoke:

Logeman auditions and gets the job (there is another drummer in between these two but lasts about a week of rehearsals)

Then Vinnie returns, Frank fires logeman (as nicely as he can) and the spring 80 tour happens.

This is not completely exact, since of course Logeman played on the 80 spring tour. On the other hand, Logeman misremembers a few things in the UM interview with Pat - he says that the tours were a gas, while I believe it was just one tour. He also says that he's all over the Shut Up And Play Yer Guitar album, when I don't recall any other drummers than Colauita and Bozzio on there.

He was incorrect in thinking he was on the Shut Up... albums, yes. As far as the "tours" I guess he considered spring U.S. and summer Europe two different tours.
