I hate the CD mix of this. Too much echo and reverb and that shitty ass "Stereo Wide" sound like in the boom boxes had in the early 80's (anybody remember that???)
Very different from the LP mix which I prefer.
The original LP has so much more "air" and real feeling to it. The digital reverb FZ was fucking with at the time of remastering did not do this LP (and a few others) any good IMHO.
Anybody else A/B this one???

"Nice Balls Felix"

Hmmm, haven't really noticed that. The CD that's always bugged me that people complain about for all the wrong reasons is Uncle Meat. Everyone just complains about the movie excerpts and "Tengo Na Menchia Tanta," but you can just skip past those tracks. What I hate about that CD is that there's way too goddamned much digital reverb on it! For a long time, I just couldn't get into the CD for some reason. After a while, it started to grow on me. Then, I got a vinyl copy and loved it. The LP sounds much warmer, and the presence is much stronger. The CD makes it sound like the album was recorded in a high school gymnasium.

As with Uncle Meat... The horrible "digiverb" is also present on the Waka/Jawaka CD.
I love the warmness of the LP. It feels like you are in the same room with the band. The CD make U feel like you in a fuckin' hockey rink!
Foo-Weeeeeeeee!

"Handlebar Johnnies"

Yes, Waka/Jawaka (and Uncle Meat) is one of the albums that need to be reissued properly. There are a bunch that should...

It's just hard to beat the sound of vinyl music for some reason. I have noticed this on a lot of CD vs. Vinyls

I have many of the same recordings on both... I can't explain the difference..It's like, CDs have no soul (musically) or something ??? I know that sounds funny, but I don't know how else to describe it.

CDs are just so damn convienet

For those who, like me, haven't heard almost any FZ album on LP, it is hard to decide, but I love the WJ cd though...

What most bother me about absolute audiophiles is that, sometimes they don't put up on the scale particular situations about cds sounds, cd vs vynil, etc...

I think that in this case here the aspect of the mix is not the same affair about the so cried overdubs (WOIINFTM, CWRATJ, SD)... Than, good for you people who had the opportunity of know alternative mixes ;) I wish I could (by judging from your description!...)

But us regular folks who might live in social retarded areas, or have been born in the 80's or watever, might know this exquisite little inconvinientce by the name of... ONLY KNOWING A PARTICULAR CD MIX of WJ :P

I had the lucky to have been born in a vynil world, but not late enough to not being able to assimilate the digital sound on cds...

All my Zappa's are CDs, exept for FZMTMOP (European version w/o Porn Wars)...

I only know one particular cd mix of all the above mentioned albums and I simply love them anyway...

I would probably buy alternative mixes though or even trying to ensemble my complete Vynil FZ collection, anyway... I've seen they have that on BS here on zappa.com, isn't it?

The case here again (i.e listening to FZ music) is: It is better to listen to a bad 90's mix or the worst sounding BTBs album, than not listening at all ...

;DARFOUS ;D
