I'm not aware of all of Frank's discography, but I wondered what the consensus opinion is about his live work.

Please write down the live records that I missed here:

Zappa in New York
Tinseltown Rebellion
Cheap Thrills

I know there's a lot more but it's almost 2 days since I slept so help me out ;D

More poignantly, which record best represents the quality of a Zappa show the best?

Being that a lot fo you out there actually saw a Zappa show live, do the records do it justice?

In any case - definitions ignored - I always find Roxy to be the best live album (Yes I know it contains overdubs and various editing, but,,,,,)

It's very hard to beat "Sheik Yerbouti," which is in many ways my favorite Frank Zappa album.

Yeah, it's got a lot of overdubs and sometimes two different recordings are edited together for one song, and there's Xenochrony and all that stuff, but it's basically still a live album.

I would choose ROXY. It was my favourite album last year. Now I have more albums and can't decide. ;)

I actually just checked out YCDTOSA Volume I the other day, hadnt heard it in a while. This definitely deserves a mention, forgotten how cool it was. Both discs are consistent, unlike some YCDTOSA moments, and a really nice variation of bands and eras.........so there.....
I've always had a soft spot for 'Zappa in New York', that's probably my favourite of all the live albums - although it's extremely hard to pick just one. 'Roxy & Elsewhere' is another one - very tight, terrific performances all over.

Oh yes, my very first post on this nice forum... 8)

Hi everybody!
hey there dysentery_green

welcome to the thing/jay-p forum....uh....well....er....
stick around. It gets better ;D

btw: zappa in NY is my fav. live album. I just wish I could get a copy of sum-a-dem shows. Official or not. Although t'would be nice to get the rest of the tracks on a spiffy gnew release

Right now it's Zappa In New York. But I'm not as used to listening to this one as I am the others.
