I am a "newbie" here at zappa.com, but I have been a Zappa fan for about 10 years I guess. Anyway, I have read some of the posts about some of the latest releases. Perhaps there are some posts that describe what people like about the new music, but I haven't found any quickly.

I guess there are 5 recent releases, right? ==>
Halloween
FZ: OZ
Joe's Corsage
QuAUDIOPHILIAc
Joe's Domage

I have read some of the complaints about the DVD-A releases which I guess are just Halloween and QuAUDIOPHILIAc. I can see where both sides are coming from. On the one hand, DVD-A is not very convenient and convenience is a big selling point for me, so I am a little miffed at those being available in only that format. But I also can appreciate this stuff being available if the quality is really that good. I would listen to these as a special ocassion and just zone out in my den listening through my Xbox and stereo system on headphones.

Since I don't have all of the original albums yet, I am not sure that I should go for any of this new stuff yet. Any thoughts on that? I guess the question is - are there any tracks that are worth me passing up some of the old stuff when this is the only Zappa that I own so far? I typically like the stuff with George Duke the best by the way, but I also like the Mothers of Invention stuff a lot Do I need to pick up some other stuff before going for the new stuff? "Here is what I have so far. ==>
Freak Out
Absolutely Free
WOIIFTM/Lumpy Gravy
Apostrophe/Overnite Sensation
YCDTOSA Vol.2, 3 and 6
Hot Rats
Sheik Yerbouti
The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life
Roxy and Elsewhere
Strictly Commercial

Secondly, what is your favorite of the new releases? In what order would you rank them?

And third, I don't know much at all about DVD-A or SACD. Are the DVD-A Zappa releases playable on non DVD-A players and if so is the quality that bad? Are they a good listen on some nice headphones through a DVD player?

Thanks all.

What do you mean by try search for your answers? Do you mean "how dare you ask us a question that may have been answered in several other posts in various forums?". If that is what you mean, fuck that. I did search a little before posting my message, but I wasn't going to spend another hour trying to find out how much everyone ranks these. I had several things to mention in my post, so I posted it. If that is not what you mean, sorry I misunderstood.

Anyone else have some feedback to my original message?
First off try search for your answers.

Second of the ZFT Vaulternative releases.

1) FZ:OZ
2) Joe's Corsage - ranks with FZ:OZ just wish it was longer
3) Halloween

Haven't got the two new ones.

As for buying FZ. All of it is worth exploring.
I know how to use the search feature. Thanks for the help anyway. I can see that we have some smart-asses here. Some of you guys don't seem to be worth chatting with. I am so sick of people on message boards bitching about every little thing like "you shouldn't have posted that because it has already been discussed" and shit like that. I don't mind someone pointing that out, but there is always this snootiness that comes through. Hopefully not everyone here is that immature. Why don't you guys just ignore a topic that you don't want to discuss rather than piss and moan?

Coffee -- DVD audio discs will play on any DVD player.

If you have a computer with a DVD drive, it will play on there perfectly, and you can listen to the Stereo mix through headphones or the 5.1 mix if you have a 6 or 7-piece speaker system for your computer.

Ok, sorry for being so snappy, but I just get irrititated when people tell me to search for my answers when I ask a question. Here are the 2 posts that annoyed me:

Zardoz:
First off try search for your answers.

LumpyGravy:
OK, Zardoz, but how do you stop redundant posts?

I don't mind the message that you were sending Zardoz - the way you worded it just came across as a little snotty. And then Lumpy seemed to compound that by rubbing it in. I was quick to jump on you and it is partly because I am just tired of the lack of respect that people show one another on the internet so often. So I was taking some of that out on you. In general, people are just not flexible or accepting of others. Everyone is a critic or an elitist. When you visit a lot of sites, the senior members are the worst because they feel like they have set the groundwork and everyone better play by their rules. Maybe you guys aren't like that. Maybe I should've just shrugged it off. Truthfully, it is not just people on the web. I see so much negativity every day - at work, at the grocery store, in traffic, etc. etc. I just wish that people were a little more patient and understanding of one another. I am no angel, but it is just depressing how people treat one another.

Bottom line - sorry guys. My little world-view is now affecting my judgement apparently. Peace.

Yes Lumpy I saw your 2nd post. I said sorry at least once or twice man, damn. Does anyone understand where I was coming from at all on my point that everyone just HAS to say something anytime you post something that has been discussed? Either way, whatever.

Isaac, thanks for your reply re: DVD-A. To those of you who posted links to similar discussions, thanks for that too. I will probably read all of that soon, but I didn't have time to go through all of that the other night and thought it would be easier to start a new thread. This thread one has since gone off course, so I don't know how well it is going to hold up.

Coffee, I think your post deserves answers without the attitude. How can one recommend a future FZ purchase to you without knowing what discs you already have?

I recommend "Lather" for you, as well as "YCDTOSA Vol #5", and "FZ:OZ".

Thanks for the recent replies guys. Great recommendations from Lumpy and moggio. I do appreciate it. moggio, you really knew where I was coming from. I like just about all of Zappa's stuff, but some of us prefer certain Zappa periods over others. Then again, it is not that easy either though because here are 3 of my favorite Zappa albums and they are all different periods and styles:
We're Only In It For the Money
Hot Rats
One Size Fits All

I guess in the end, if I had to choose, this is the stuff that appeals to me the most:
One Size Fits All
Apostrophe
Overnite Sensation
YCDTOSA Vol.2
Joe's Garage (I don't own this one though)
The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life
