For Outside Now Frank Zappa used the live guitarsolo from Munich early march 31 1979 (City of Tiny Lights/ Outside now). For The Perfect Stranger version of Outside Now again he used the same solo and transcribed it to synclavier ;D He must have liked that solo very much using it twice :o
It's all in The Real Frank Zappa Book.
Short version, from memory here:

Sometime around 1980 (or maybe it was in '79), Zappa was offered a deal to have some of his orchestral work played in Holland. Part of the financing was supposed to come from a short European Tour, with a small rock outfit, playing Zappa's usual stuff. Colaiuta and Jeff Berlin went behind Zappa's back, trying to get a better pay than the rest of the band. When Zappa heard about this, he cancelled the 'rock group' tour.
(Eventually the whole thing got cancelled, due to lack of finance from the Dutch).
Thanks for the info!

Yeah, surely the whole Central Scrutinizer thing is what brings the concept of the album together?

It just would not be the same album without the CS...
I kinda see both sides of this Central Scrutinizer debate. I'd like to hear some of the songs (especially Watermelon in Easter Hay) without his commentary, but that's what holds the whole album together.

You know...I would never come up with such questions if I did not read messages on the forum. I allways loved this trio without ever questioning the Central Scrutinizers presence. It just belongs there...You'll love it, it's a way of life! ;D
