I too like instrumentals best - but I would say there are two kinds of songs : the ones with lyrics that stand for themselves, and the ones where the vocals are instruments. Frank used the first kind when he had something to say, or a joke to make, and the music is less complex and, in my opinion, less interesting. Sheik Yerbouti contains a lot of that stuff. When the vocals are used as instruments, the tune's as good as if it was only instrumental : I'm thinking about true gems like Brown Shoes, For Calvin, Pygmy Twylyte and so on... Roxy & Elsewhere contains all that kind of stuff, from very complex instrumentals, to instrumental-like songs and mere songs.
