True. This album does not get nearly the amount of praise it should get.

Well, my top 10 changes alot but.....

11. Hot Rats (Not quite as good as some people say, but still a Brilliant..)

10. Them or Us (underated, A fab double album, possably his best 80's album)

9. Uncle Meat (Very strange, I love some of the instrumentals..)

8. Roxy & eleswhere (By FAR his best live album, not a bad track on any of the four sides)

7. Joe's Garage Act 1 (Act one is AMAZING  but acts 2 & 3? not so good....lol)

6. Absolutly Free (Brown Shoes dont make it is Great, as are all the songs about vegitables :!: )

5. Chunga's Revenge (Some incredable tracks on here..)

4. Over-nite Sensation (Every track on this album is worthy of being on a best of..especially Camarilo Brillo!)

3. Freak out! (A truly revolutionary debut album, also one of the first ever double albums...)

2. Burnt Weeny Sandwhich (Just incredible, The full of strange instramentals and odd little bits, First Zappa album I ever Had too!)

1. We're Only in it For the Money (An Amazing look at the late 60's hippy scene, the album changes from funny to creepy in a flash :) )

Well, I knew I wouldnt be able to get it down to 10! And Weasle Ripped my flesh, Sheik yerbouti (I think that how you spell it..?)
Zoot Alures, Tinsel Town Rebbellion and Shut up and play your guitar amongst others are all great as well....

1) Weasels Ripped My Flesh. It took me some time to appreciate this one which is often a good sign. Apart from loving the individual songs what really gets me about it is the programming of the tracks. On paper the album is just a collection of odds and ends but I actually thing the way the tracks segue is genius and Frank never bettered it. The flow of this album is superb and the way it builds to Oh No and Orange County Lumber Truck (a long time favorite FZ melody) still excites my ears after years of hearing it. The Eric Dolphy Memorial Barbecue got me into Dolphy then Coltrane and the wider world of classic Jazz. A perfect album!

2) The Yellow Shark. A perfect mixture of classic Zappa melodies from early days mixed with some astonishing newer compositions, beautifully recorded and played. Dog Breath and Uncle Meat will probably never be played this well again. Get Whitey, Outrage at Valdez and The Girl in the Magnesium Dress are Zappa at the top of his compositional game in my view. This album can still give me goose bumps.

3) Make a Jazz Noise Here. I tend to prefer instrumental Zappa and this one tends to emphasize that side of the superb '88 band. One of my favorite live albums.

4) YCDTOSA V.2. Another terrific live album. Just edges out Roxy and Elsewhere for me.

5) Uncle Meat. Although far from a perfect album, Zappa's extraordinary capacity for melodic invention is in full flight here. Some of those melodies will stick in my head for days after hearing them.

6) Civilization Phaze III. I think some of Frank's earlier synclavier pieces sounded dry and clinical, here he really nailed it and some of the music is very moving.

7) We're Only In It For The Money. As good as it's reputation suggests. Zappa gets the satirical tone just right and I'm not sure he ever bettered it in that regard.

8) Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar. I can barely listen to guitar solos these days, but I never tire of Zappa's solos. I still think as far as a solo being a coherent statement, no other guitarist is better.

9) Burnt Weeny Sandwich. Solid from end to end.

10) Imaginary Diseases. Not sure it's earned its place yet but I do really love it.
