Although I'm not a big fan of Dinah-Moe, Zomby Woof + Montana on the same side really makes it.

kinda hard to pick which side is better, but one side usually got played more than the others
• overnite sensation: that's a tough one, side 2 has the edge only because of the montana fadeout...leaves you hummin at the end
 • freakout: side 3 with trouble comin & help i'm a rock
 • grand wazoo: another impossible choice, side 2 got played a little more
 • absolutley free: side 2; brown shows makes it
 • uncle meat: side 4; kk 6 times
 • hot rats: side 2 got played a little more
 • bws: can't choose, both got played equally
 • weasels: side 2 was a heavily favoured
 • chunga: side 1 was a heavily favoured
 • fillmore: side 1 was a very heavily favoured
 • waka: side 2 was a marginally favoured
 • zoot: hard choice, maybe go with side 2
 • ziny: side 4 purple lagoon
 • sleep dirt: both sides equal
 • studio tan: side 2 by a long shot
 • m.o.p: side 2 porn wars

A side that content 'Camarillo Brillo' is unbeatable, sooo Side 1 in this case...

It's a tough choice, but I'll take side 1. 50/50 is a full-tilt jam, the rhythm section is really working out. Not to mention the over-the-top vocals of Ricky Lancelotti. I also like his singing on Wonderful Wino. Too bad he checked out, had a lot of talent and potential.

The transition from the keyboard solo to the violin solo to the guitar solo is just fucking amazing.
The interplay between Ralph and Tom during the keyboard solo (and the whole solo for that matter) is ridiculous. Listen to it closely and you'll be stunned!!!

I think this one is in need of a Spencer AU20 style re-release/remaster. The 1986 Ryko combo CD was a piece of shit. And the newer FZ approved Ryko CD isn't much better. Same mix as the 1986 version but the db levels are higher. It just has way too much gawd-damned digi-verb on the drums and vocals. LP mix is so much better. I have 8 differant pressings of Overnite LP and the German pressing sounds just fantastic. Probably the best sounding one I have heard. The Japan LP probably sounds great too.
The OSFA AU20 CD is fucking killer and restores the sound of the original LP very well. I hope they do a simular remaster type job with this one too.

My song ranking:

Slime
Zomby
Montana
Dirty
50/50
Camarillo
Humm

50/50 is one of the few songs where the Zappa solo is inferior to the others.......violin & Keyboard. Slime is short but sweet solo. Zomby is the best air guitar op ever.
Dude, the 50-50 solo is pretty much a shredder. I love it, but after a listen I think the Zomby solo is better, making a solo memorable is hard and he did it. Like, he twists the Zomby Woof riff around and incorporated it into the solo, kicked ASS.

"Fifty Fifty" is a super human feat of endurance and speed, but "I'm The Slime", "Zomby Woof", and "Montana" contain much more tasteful solos that work better dynamically.

All great though. 8)
