just watched a documentary about this.

and as hard as it was for me to watch, it's even harder for me to understand how this could happen, i just can't wrap my brain around it.

the documentary is in two parts, Witness To Jonestown & Escape From Jonestown.. without a doubt one of the creepiest things i have ever seen!

Remember when the phrase "drink the kool aid" was considered offensive? A sick joke? Thanks to the new JM exposure, I realized that the young folk of today hadn't a clue from where it came from.

Is being sad about someones death a cultural thing? In my family the grieving process ends as soon as the body ends up in a coffin or in a can. Maybe it's just me. VIVA ZAPPA

:P Seems to me that it is quite selfish to mourn as long as some do. We should be celebrating life.

Sorry, I wasn't making fun of you, I just wondered after seeing a documentary where Mexican kids aged 6 went on a field trip to visit a bunch of mummies.

Celebrating the life that WAS , to me , is just as important as celebrating the life that IS.

In my weird way of thinking , the person that has passed is still as current as the memories of that person. As long as the memory remembers , that person is gone but not forgotten. Why not celebrate those memories ??

Both John Lennon and Dimebag Darrell were murdered on this day. Another sad day.

The attack on Pearl Harbor (or Hawaii Operation, as it was called by the Imperial General Headquarters) was a surprise military strike conducted by the Japanese navy against the United States' naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on the morning of Sunday, December 7, 1941, later resulting in the United States becoming militarily involved in World War II

On this day, 3 years ago, my daughter was born. And though she has nothing to do with Pearl Harbor, she is indeed a pearl who was harvested from the safe harbor of her prenatal womb into this crazy friggin' world.

Does this mean she'll grow up to be a blonde bombshell?

Not that I wouldn't trust you Doug. But I've heard from other (conspiracy) theories claiming it wasn't such a surprise - at least for some people in Washington D.C.

Also yesterday: Besides Lennon and Dimebag, Tom Jobim, of the Girl of Ipanema's fame died (1994):

______________

Today:

The mouse hits 40-year milestone

The humble computer mouse celebrates its 40th anniversary today.

On 9 December 1968 hi-tech visionary Douglas Engelbart first used one to demonstrate novel ways of working with computers.

The first mouse that Dr Engelbart used in the demo at the Fall Joint Computer Conference (FJCC) was made of wood and had one button.

Much of the technology shown off in the demo inspired the creation of the hardware and software now widely used.

"It was a good show, but it was all real," said Dr Jeff Rulifson, now director of Sun's VLSI research group but in 1968 architect and lead programmer for the software shown off at the FJCC.
