Overrated, TERRIBLE live, fumble fingers.

Plenty of other guys had waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better riffs in the 70s.

In general I agree , I saw Zeppelin in 70 and Jimi did pretty good, but I have heard many say they saw him live and he was fumble fingers, defiantly not Peter Green from 1970

Some of those songs stand the test of time. He's s better songwriter than guitar player, I think.

Every Zeppelin studio album is great. Judging from live performances he could be real sloppy at times (other times real good). I remember Steve Morse talking about Jimmy Page and he said that it sounded to him like he just stopped practicing at some point. But still "In Through The Out Door" is a great album. I like Zep a lot.

too bad they don't get BETTER with time.

nah, i shouldn't say that. i really do enjoy playing some of those riffs.
but to actually listen to an album start to finish --- can't do it.
i end up wanting to maim, cripple, crush, and destroy.

Joke? I fail to see the joke. I'm familiar with the wretched Bee Gees song you are referencing but are you saying that Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band didn't have better riffs than J Page?

I'm not a huge Zeppelin fan, but I do enjoy listening to their stuff on occasion. I like all the albums, especially I, III, and IV.
I admire Page as a songwriter. On the other hand I have never been particularly fond of Robert Plant, and I think if anyone's overrated it's Bonzo.
John Paul Jones, imo, was the hidden gem in that band, a tasteful, understated player and a great arranger.

my girlfriend is a huge zeppelin fan.
her brother saw the band/got backstage sometime in the 70's.
he said the backstage area was filled with fans/groupies,
yet r.p. sat there with his hand down his pants fondling himself and talking to no one.

I got to see them in winter '75, the Physical Graffiti tour, sandwiched between The Who (June '74) and the Stones (June'75), all at the same venue (Madison Square Garden). They were really good, however, in my estimation both The Who and the Stones blew Zep out of the water.

I'm as big a Zeppelin fan as anybody, but I never liked listening to them live. The studio albums have great guitar parts which are mixed and layered very well. Great sound, with creative and diverse parts. I wouldn't put him near the top of my favorite guitarists list, but he was a big factor in creating some of my favorite albums. But live, it's kind of messy and directionless. And also on the minus side, I think he was kind of a sicko for dating a 13 year old girl.

Physical graffiti is the only album they made with no duff tracks. Led zep 3 is close. The rest are patchy.
No quarter on TSRTS is maybe my fave track.
