In my experience; no.

Uh, if you saw them live you would shut your fucking mouth. 8)
Maybe, but not likely. I wouldn't put my money on it saying I would. It only remains to get Gene Ween(is) to shut his fucking mouth about Zappa when he trashes him and does so like any drunken bubba babbling at any watering hole in Anytown, USA.
He's a fucking snot but nearly nobody seems to notice how fucking stupid he really sounds when he has nothing to say but goes right ahead and says it anyway.

As was said before, those comments were from an interview from about 12 years ago. Ask him some the same questions now he might feel differently. Why is everyone here so quick to defend Zappa against all naysayers? Would FZ wanted all of us to fight his battles? OF course not. A man of his intelligence could've put anyone in their place. Music is subjective, opinions vary. Just because any Tom, Dick, or Gener says FZ or Ween sucks, doesn't necessarily make it fucking so.

I find it funny that people who weren't Ween fans and weren't about to become ones totally hate them now because they dissed Zappa. Who gives a fuck what they say. I know Dean thinks Bowie's music is superior to Zappa's. I highly disagree of course, but I don't hate them for it. Opinions, assholes...

For me, it's not the opinion. It's the sheer lack of knowledge, insight, or real substance. Perhaps J.C. Greasy's right-- I refuse to believe anyone could jump around pointlessly like that, it seemed overcalculated for bad effect...

We agree! When you're a public person in the public eye and public ears and something you say makes its way through the public media that shows a "sheer lack of knowledge, insight, or real substance", someone or several someones just might point that out.

I like this "Tender Situation" better, with Dean singing instead. I really love the classic era - the duo + DAT machine. The version on "Paintin The Town Brown" is the greatest, with that seriously brown guitar solo. I was cranking "The Pod" last night. Pure genius.

Well, being that this thread has been resurrected, I'd like to take this opportunity to say that since initially reading it back in the fall, I have become a Ween fan. I currently own 8 studio albums and am most currently getting into Quebec.

Great stuff, great band!

Probably listen to The Mollusk more than anything else. My sons are generally repulsed by it, ha ha.

The only one I'm not crazy about is White Pepper.

Still dont have anything live, but workin on it...

seen 'em live 7 times. don't knock them until you've seen them live. they are the best live band in the world today IMHO, and have been ever since Fish quit Fishbone. and i couldn't care less what they think about Frank. i think Frank would have loved them.

What? No Moistboyz in that collection? All four of their discs are essential. One of the best concerts I've ever seen too.

that's a great collection mufinman!
That's so crazy you have a 'I'm fat' single. That's freakin nuts!!!
Never seen the Skycruiser sleeve before and the Moistboyz test pressing:
You get that stuff on ebay or do you live in the Philly area or what?
Great to see it. I love the live stuff and sadly the Live in Austin, and chicago dvd are not as good as I would hope. There is so much stuff out there that is far superior. Paintin The Town is not a bad sampler, but far too short.
thanx fer sharing!

ha, no, i don't live near Philly. everything that came out after White Pepper i bought as it came out, everything else i got from ebay with the exception of my Grand Royal pressing of Chocolate & Cheese which i found used at a fine local record shop for $20.

the Moistboyz test pressing i got as a bonus from Schnitzel after they shorted one of my orders.

Perfect bar band for drunken cabbies after they put up.

So I don't remember who I was talking to in chat last week, but they sent me a few links to some Ween videos...

One was a guitar solo video, and another was a lego video called "Where'd the Cheese Go?"

Since then, I've acquired a few of their albums... and they're fantastic. I'm listening to the Mollusk right now, and it blows my mind.

Whoever it was who told me about these guys, thanks a shit load!

Just to put my two cents in. I started listening to Ween about 10 years ago (Chocolate & Cheese) at about age 38 and it was the biggest jolt I got from a new band (to me) in years (and since). They really are one of those "either you get it, or you don't" bands. I love the warped humor. I like that they can write in almost any popular style convincingly and parody the styles of other artists so well (Gabrielle, anyone?). People are right, live they are great (and much more musicianly than you might guess from some of their albums) and they give you your money's worth playing almost 3 hrs. After Zappa, they are on my short list for most important artist to me. Like Zappa, for those of you that "don't get it", that's OK. You weren't supposed to anyway. Everybody has there own sensibilities and tastes and we're all not supposed to like the same stuff. I think that's where the concept of individuality comes in. I'm still trying to figure out what the big deal about Bob Dylan is about (who FZ loved btw).

I know that Ween sometimes covers other band's style, such as "Gabrielle" sounding like Thin Lizzy. But, does anyone know if "Shamemaker" is supposed to sound like Silicon Teens?
