Come on.....really? I love that album and have never had an issue with the cover.

I also love the album (content wise). But the floating head it ridiculous. More so if you consider it is an Yes album, which tend to have wonderful covers (at least from Fragile on)...

I think it's a good album cover.
(and the music is great, also).
pretty typical of that era. simple, direct and effective. it's the yes album.
and, the "floating head" adds a nice, mysterious touch.

but, what do I know...?

So, this was the first Yes album with Steve Howe, the first of the big three, and the real defining of the definition, which I think is why they went looking for a new direction in their album artwork too.......enter Roger Dean.

Watch out for mysteries! You might end up interested in them and eventually find yourself believing in UFOs or even... GOD!

Roger Dean took Yes to another level of graphical arts... Here is another one of the worst Yes cover:

Wasn't that the Spanish cover for "Goats Head Soup"? I always wondered on what grounds they banned the original cover, although I suppose it's pretty dreadful too.

yes is certainly heavily associated with roger dean's artwork.

but, to me, he's boring. back in the day, when all these yes albums first came out, I got kinda curious; "how does he do this shit?"
I even bought a book about roger dean (from his beginnings as an art student up to about the yes album 'relayer').

and, I found out that he cheated. when he got really going with yes (got the money and resources), he built this huge directory of slides.
slides of animals, trees, skies, rocks etc., and he projected these slides onto his canvas, and painted right over them.
and, when he got stuck, and couldn't do background skies (gradients) or whatever himself, he had the printing company who were going to print the covers, to fix it.

roger dean is the thomas kinkaide of album cover art.

dean was not nearly as imaginative and subtle as, for instance, hipgnosis, who designed most of pink floyd's covers (and lots of others).

I really like the yes albums from the roger dean period, and I guess they were all happy with his cover art (or, at least jon anderson was, I'm sure...).
but his "art" sucks (in my opinion). but, still, I'm not going to put any of the roger dean-designed yes albums on this thread anyway.

there are some truly ugly album covers on this thread, but most of it is just subjective.

Absolutely agree. Hardly anyone else is. Compare, for instance, the cover of "Wish You Were Here" with the cover of "The Wall" (Gerald Scarfe and Roger Waters) to see what a difference cover art can make to an album as a concept.

You may laugh at Mr. Banjo, but this dude was pulling down 3 chicks a night and was a snowplow at the height of his career.

I'd sure rather look at that than the back cover of their Rembrandt Pussyhorse LP:

What is that? Hillbilly hip hop?
Fantastic!
And check out his bitches!
Love it!
I can only imagine that the "music" is just as horrible as the cover.
