Have you seen him playing in the world cup closing ceremony? It was terrible... he really sold himself. I like some of his old records, but please, he made The worst guitar solo ever.

Unfortunately Carlos hasn't played a new note in 30 years. It's a good note, but it doesn't last the ages. I too was a big fan back in the day. He was pretty unique and just plain wonderful then.

Have the same problem with Santana. He once found out how to play a really exciting really rocking guitar solo. And so he does now since about 40 years. Playing the same solo for 40 years again and again can become boring some day
But i am grateful anyway for the great albums he did in the begining (like santana, abraxas, borboletta or caravanserai) and still like to hear them nowadays.

Carlos Santana is 67 (happy birthday, BTW). There are people younger than that who have dementia.

Creatively, you can't hold him to the same standard as when he was 27. And really, they weren't holding him to any creative standard. They were simply renting his world-famous name to promote a world-famous sporting event.

Yeah, his days of musical innovation are long over. He had probably five or six really good years, and he's been living off them ever since.

How many really good years did you have?

None, huh?

I know it is cynical to say this: If he had already died at the beginning of the seventies he would sit next to Jimi in the pantheon of rock music now. But i think, there is at least a little bit of truth in it. Anyway, as i said above, i am very thankful for the great albums he already did and lots of good moments here and there in later years.
BTW: Everbody who thinks that Carlos ain't the real thing anymore give his wife a try:
