Who's your favorite artist beside Frank? Or do you have someone you like more than him? FZ is by far my favorite, and was trying to figure out who would come in second.

Rheostatics easily. Somewhat Zappian in their wildest ventures, but with an emotional quality unique to themselves and that I could never get from a Frank Zappa album. With Frank's entire recorded output + the Rheostatics I could retire to a desert island merrily and not look back!

Frank is my number 1.

My number 2 is Bruce Cockburn.

I'll link mine and yours, Martin Tielli of the Rheostatics formed a magic band with three members of Bruce Cockburn's band, Hugh Marsh, John Goldsmith, and Rob Piltch called Nick Buzz, totally unique amazing music.

I've thought of starting a thread like this:

Zappa is my favorite artist by far but I have a bunch that compete for Number 2. If I have to pick I'd say Jethro Tull. Also in contention are Todd Rundgren, Steve Vai, King Crimson, Ween, The Tubes, The Rolling Stones, Warren Zevon.

Brian Wilson / Beach Boys

8) CHECK IT OUT 8)

Holy shit, the guy thinks in five part harmony

I can't say I like FZ better, or BW better, they are different and have areas where they excell over each other in.

In my youth I waited on the edge of my seat for each new release from both. I listened to 40% FZ, 40% BW, and 20% everything else.

Brian Wilson hasn't been prolific these days...so my #1 favorite current artist is Devin Townsend

There are quite a few that I like equally as much as Zappa these days, and there are tons that I like just a little less.

Artists I like as much as Frank: Maurice Ravel, Olivier Messiaen, Gyorgy Ligeti, John Zorn, AC/DC and The Ramones.

Second favourites (short list): Ruins, Melvins, Primus, Bela Bartok, Claude Debussy, The Fall, The Residents, Anton Webern, Frederic Chopin.

Thing is, I can't think of a clear 2nd place. I really like The Who, Dream Theater, The Beatles and Queen, but really couldn't decide between all of them.

Hard question. FZ is my favorite, but depending on my mood, 2nd place could go to: Neil Young, Phish, John Fahey, Jethro Tull, Yes, Magma, or Miles Davis.

Some others I should add to my list are Beefheart, Keneally, Gary Moore, Michael Schenker/UFO, Stevie Ray Vaughan.

That is a very difficult answer for me...At different times in my life certain artist were more important to me..In my youth.. Bands like Alice Cooper / Black Sabbath / Bloodrock / Wishbone Ash.. (To name a few) Zappa's music is the only one that has stood the hands of time..

1. FZ
1.5 Todd Rundgren
2. Probably about 30 bands, maybe I'll try to list em some time.
3. Probably about 100 bands, I don't think I'll ever have time to make that list.

I think I know, but I won't tell... though it rhymes with Teven Styler, right?
