The point is, Jim Rockford drove a golden second-generation Pontiac Firebird Espirit...and he drove it very aggressively. The Trans Am just wasn't his style.

I used to own a '76 Firebird Formula. My proudest moment was when one of guys in the back seat accused me of "Rockford-style" driving! 8)

I'm on my 8th. vehicle. This was my 3rd., and remains my favourite.

I had the same car with blood red interior.....total chick magnet.

Is them factory hood scoops?

Yes, they are. I like them alot more than the later flat ones, or the ones that hung over the front.

I've got fake ones on my '95 Ford Probe. They're "cool".

...and red interiors is something we don't see much anymore. I had a purplish Mercury Marquis with a luscious red interior. It was like being in the belly of the whale!

Silver outside with red inside makes a nice-looking car.

Trip, I like the early Comets, with the "cat eye" tailights, but later models are fine. I've got several photos, just can't post 'em.

Don't forget Hiway Star by Deep Purple!

What did I tell you about those T-Birds? Strange and rare. I thought the photo of the '69 was reversed until I saw the license plate. Both of the 'Birds in that photo are export versions. The '71 pictured is a favorite of mine...there was also a "fastback" version of this that is really funky. The '70 featured in the photo is an extremely rare four door, last of the suicide doors for Ford and probably everyone else.

Note the pointy "beak" on the '70 and '71. This was known as the "Bunky Beak", after the designer Knute "Bunky" Knuteson, who also put it on many Pontiacs of the era.

I wouldn't shit you.

Any custom rods out there?

I think most of the Chevelles in the world ended up in CA. Everytime I turn around someone is slapping an SS emblem on one.

I like a good custom rod...

A friend of mine in high school got a brand new Chevelle SS about that year, maybe a '72. The school motorhead put a cam in it, and it took two batteries to start it. Fuckin' flew, though...

I know I've seen that Citroen in a movie...was it in a Bond flick? It that the one with the air suspension? Wait...it might have been Burt Reynolds driving it...

Original AAR Baccaruda is now worth a ridiculous amount of money.

L'il Red Express is one of very few collectible factory "theme" pickups. Dodge did this a lot...look for "Dude" and "Palamino" themes, too.

Hey! Palamino!

Early Barracudas are underappreciated. The first one in '64 was actually introduced before the Mustang!

...and a couple more cool songs for the car thread.

The first is about Craig Breedlove breaking the world land speed record with a J-47 jet engine with wheels on it..the second one is a ballad about something all of us knew in high school: a fellow student who bit the big one in his car, (we lost three one night, RIP Joey, my next door neighbor)...

SPIRIT OF AMERICA

A YOUNG MAN IS GONE

Spirit of America, one of the coolest cars around, (at 407 mph). :)

One day he couldn't stop....he ended up in the lake..he was OK.

Hey what was that movie where Anthony Hopkins plays the New Zealand dude that breaks the motorcycle land speed record? Good movie...and some guy I think playing Breedlove drives up in a '63 or '64 Mercury Colony Park wagon with the fake wood applique...clean as Hell.

I can't tell by the photos, but I think all Palaminos were painted tan and white.

Dude, the Dude site is awesome. Did you see the print ad featuring Don Knotts?

...speaking of whom...cars supplied to the Andy Griffith Show were FoMoCo. That doesn't mean that every car shown was a Ford, but all of Andy's rides were. Now, the old F.B.I. television series...literally every car on the show was a Ford. The Mad Magazine parody had every machine in the show plastered with FORD emblems!

Joe Friday drove a Ford, too. Now, who can get me a photo of Jack Lord's Hawaii 5-0 Mercury?

The A.Hopkins movie was "The Fastest Indian", pretty good flick.

Thanks, Plook!

The GSX is a collector bargain compared to Chevelles and GTOs. The new Camaro is damn nice. The Buicks I like are the big ones...a favorite is the '59 Electra.

Wow, the real McGarrett 5-0 Mercury!

One of hundreds, no doubt...

...no really, Jack Lord used the Mercury long past it's day because he didn't think the newer, bigger Mercury Marquises were "hard dick" enough.

He eventually gave in to the bigger car, and the show lost some of it's pizzazz.

No, really I thought McGarrett drove a black Monterrey sedan, not the Park Lane 4-door hardtop.

...or was it Danno that did the driving?

Want to see an unusual car? Find a 1960 Mercury Park Lane.

Their actually getting pricier. Skylarks are much cheaper but for a 1970 GSX youre lookin at about 100k. One on ebay right now for only99k buy it now!

Love that 59 Electra too! My Rivi has 7 feet of hood, the 455 looks puny with space all around it to work.
