This is a thread to post add-ons you find useful for Mozilla Firefox and its derived browsers such as GNU IceCat. I'll keep my own list short and only include those which I find to be particularly helpful.

AdBlockPlus
https://adblockplus.org/

Thought I'd start out with this classic. I'm assuming that if you use a Firefox-like browser you already know what this does, and if you don't then just read the name. It blocks ads.

Gnash
http://getgnash.org/

Gnash functions as both a standalone Flash player and a plugin for Firefox-like browsers. A great alternative to Adobe's proprietary plugin.

NoScript
http://noscript.net/

This is a neat little extension I just discovered. It's a whitelist Javascript blocker, meaning that unless you explicitly allow Javascript from a particular website to run, it will block it. It also blocks some other scripts, such as Flash Actionscript. Plus, you can specify certain websites as "untrusted" to place further restrictions on what they can do. A lifesaver for those concerned about the Javascript trap, or just want privacy when browsing the web.

Screengrab
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1146

This quite simply turns a web page into a PNG or JPEG image.

VLC Media Player
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/14730

A pretty useful plugin which brings the functionality of VLC media player to your Firefox-like browser. Unfortunately, there is no way to make this plugin handle HTML5 embedded media.

WikiLook
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7675

Ctrl+right-click on any word to look it up on Wikipedia/Wiktionary. Sorry, Mac users.

All of the above add-ons are free software. For a longer list of free software add-ons for Firefox-like browsers, see http://www.gnu.org/software/gnuzilla/addons.html.

Rikaichan
http://rikaichan.mozdev.org/

Provides a popup Japanese-English/German/French/Russian dictionary. Hover the mouse on top of Japanese words (kanji, hiragana or katakana) to display the translation. A more detailed kanji view shows the character's meaning, on/kun readings, number of strokes and other information.

Image Zoom
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/139/

Includes zoom and rotation functionality for images in the right click contextual menu.

Cooliris
http://www.cooliris.com/

Interactive full-screen slideshows of online images ala Google with an iPhone like layout.

SearchPreview
http://searchpreview.de/

Inserts preview images (thumbnails) and popularity ranks of web sites into the Google, Yahoo and Bing search results pages.

And, this detects links which refer to next or previous pages automatically. If the URI includes a numeric part, it can be incremented/decremented like by EZNav extension.

TinEye Reverse Image Search 0.7.1
TinEye is the first image search engine on the web to use image identification technology rather than keywords, metadata or watermarks. When you submit an image to be searched, TinEye creates a unique and compact digital signature or 'fingerprint' for it, then compares this fingerprint to every other image in our index to retrieve matches. TinEye does not typically find similar images; it finds exact matches including those that have been cropped, edited or resized.

Pixlr Grabber 2.0.3
Making screen grabs and pulling down images from the web just got a bit more easy. With the Pixlr grabber add-on you can choose to Edit, Share, Save or Copy your final grabs. You also get the possibility to right-click any image or background to edit them.

Backgroundimage Saver 0.1.2
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1853
Backgroundimage Saver is a quite simple extension that provides help for an annoying technique that can be found on more and more pages. That is to hide images behind a transparent gif to protect them against being saved...
This add-on is for older versions of Firefox

Not a plugin, but it is recommended to regularly view this page : http://www.mozilla.com/en/plugincheck/
It's just a pity Firefox does not check these automatically :-/

Mozilla aims to share data with privacy campaigners

Mozilla, the maker of Firefox, has unveiled a new add-on for the popular web browser that gives web users an instant view of which companies are 'watching' them as they browse.

The move comes the same week that Google pushed ahead with its controversial new privacy policy, built to provide even more data for Google's $28 billion advertising business - despite concerns that the massive harvesting of private data might be illegal in many countries.

The Collusion add-on will allow users to 'pull back the curtain' on web advertising firms and other third parties that track people's online movements, says Mozilla CEO Gary Kovacs.
