The fire was the result of a band's pathetic attempt to relive their long-gone glory days by using arena pyrotechnics to distract themselves from the fact that they were now playing small clubs and no longer selling out civic centers. Jack Russell should have stuck to fishing.

This is serious stuff for we concert-goers. The dath toll is 96 of about 240 people. There were three exists and the club was on the ground floor. If things went perfectly you would have only had 180 seconds to get 80 opeople out of the each of the three exits. What if the club was on a higher floor, or even worse, in a basement. The panic contribted in a huge way to the carnage. From now on, I for one will choose my location based on proximity to the exit versus proximity to center stage. The Chicago story is maybe evenbmore frightening, as there was no fire, just a fight.
