Just thought, since I haven't been around these parts in ages, I should post about going to see Weird Al Live this summer at Massey Hall. Al was the first musician I ever scrimped money together to buy, his 80's output was a massive part of my childhood, and further interest in music. There was a massive lapse in my interest in his music from the early 90's through till I guess I heard Genius in France. At any rate, I happened to be in TO while he was playing this summer, and figured I should check out his live show, which I have to say was mindblowing. I don't know if anyone else here has been to his concerts, but honestly, the man is such a consummate professional. At 50, still giving each and every song his all, and let's be clear, this concert was non-stop for more than 2 and a half hours. Even without the parodies and costume changes and all that, he's got a monstrous stage presence that sells every line of every song. The man was born to be on stage. Another more impressive feat is that honestly, he's releasing better albums now than he ever has in his career, especially Straight Out of Lynwood I feel trumps just about anything I heard as a kid, and given this has such massive nostalgic appeal for me, that's a major feat! Anyways, just wanted to spread awareness of the man on here, you cannot be more entertained in concert, of that I am fairly sure. he builds the shows up into an epic frenzy of joy by the end. And I don't really want to give away some of his gimmicks, because not knowing some of what happens made the experience SO much better. He's on tour now, a strong recommendation!
