Stuxnet and Flame were cyberattacks aimed at Iran. In the case of Stuxnet, the virus somehow started showing up in China and Japan. Vital controls that should have shut down the Fukishima nuclear complex after the tsumami last year did not perform as designed...aka did not work...making the disaster many times worse. Fukishima is still not contained, and there's not much from the power company or the government as to when, if ever, the site will stop emitting dangerous levels of radioactive particles.

It may seem like a small thing to some folks, or perhaps nothing to worry about, but it seems obvious that whomever is responsible for Stuxnet may also be responsible for a very bad situation in Japan, and possibly a hard time for the entire human race.

Disturbing, disturbing. But (he asks naively) is it worse than chucking atomic bombs at each other? On the other hand, perhaps you could see it as a prelude to the main event?

I listened to a radio show last week about this. They were saying that Stuxnet is a relatively small file, while flame is much larger, very much more so than a typical virus. They did also say that most recent updates to firewalls protects against both of these now, so update if you need to.

Don't Be Stupid Unless You Want To

Stuxnet was designed to attack a Siemens brand controller, the same kind used in a lot of nuclear reactors, including the one at Fukishima.

No matter what the deal is here, cyber warfare can really fuck shit up...everything is hooked to a computer of some sort nowdays!

Lots of companies/govts seem to be giving contracts to Síemens. Sometimes, I wonder why...
