Of course they are - how could they not be?

I got the new Hitler biography by Ullrich; the introduction whetted my appetite appropriately.

Once I have read the bio by Fest. Don't know about Ulrich's one. But it seems to be good.

I think Fest's book was important at the time, but there are a number of points on which I disagree with him. I find him very interpretive, i.e. he claims to know what people are thinking a lot of the time. A stylistic problem for me are also the very long sentences which produce a verb at the end (The Curse of Thomas Mann, as I call it).
Ian Kershaw's book[s] were very good indeed, but he is more interested in structures rather than personalities. The latter interests me more, so I'm hoping Ullrich's book will live up to his promise in the introduction.
I've got to finish Hamann's "Hitlers Wien" first though. It is excellent, not so much on Hitler as on the Austro-Hungarian Empire in Vienna at the beginning of the 20th Century - WWI or no WWI they would have fallen apart, according to her. Lessons to be learned for the EU, perhaps?

This Asus notebook thingy I'm replying on. The screen detaches from the keyboard and can be used as a tablet.
