Draft scare? I believe it will become a reality. In fact it's already in the federal budget to appoint draft board positions. With a possibility of begining the draft in March, 2005. Rumsfeld stated that there are not enough reservist units left to activate to rotate troops out of the Middle East. So as Country Joe McDonald said "COME ON OVER YOU BIG STRONG MEN, UNCLE SAM NEEDS YOUR HELP AGAIN".
Did'nt he also say "Be the first one on your block to have your boy come home in a box" very perceptive man is Country Joe
Just a question...

If Bush is defeated in November, would that still be in effect ? I mean, would Rumsfeld still be in place ?

Of course, those two months will be a time of transition for the new cabinet. Rummy will most likely be there to the bitter end.

And if the draft law is passed this term (and signed into law), it will go into effect unless it is repealed.

Is it a long process ? If it's a simple procedure, maybe it'll harm no one. But maybe, I'm dreaming...what can be simple today ? Anyway, I'd like to know.

(The US hasn't had a military draft since the 70's.) This will be a VERY unpopular law, and it is an election year, so it may not happen. It'll be a good test of how much Congress is really behind this war effort. If it does indeed become law, it will probably last as long as the war does (or longer). Repealing it may early will depend on how much of Congress turns over in November (especially in the Senate).

I disagree with this war too. And I never said "You must go to war to be a man." All I am trying to get at is that I'm sick of seeing these kids who seem to be brainwashed and act like a bunch of pussies. What ever happened to a regular fight? Now we have guns and court cases. Just seems that every time I turn on the television, there's some kid on the news who shoots up the school. What the hell is going on?

If you wanna try to stop this from happening, get off your dead ass and contact your federal representatives RIGHT NOW and express your opinion. Then vote in the next election based on what they end up doing.

". If the parents can guarantee they won't, who will ?

IMHO, I think guns access should be strictly restricted but that's another matter already discussed here a long time ago.
