Can't they just naturalise them as Americans ? (a wild guess)

I had a thought about people from other countries coming in while some of our jobs are going out in their countries (like a programmer job). It made me smile 1/4 of a second.

I'm glad this was enacted and that tons of people were drafted.

In 71 or 72, I was eligible for the draft, which consisted of a lottery based on birthdays. I was working in a factory with the guy I worked with every day, who was also eligible. We listened nervously to the lottery on the radio. I got 276, which meant it was very unlikely I would be drafted. My pal got number 6.... Which meant he was definitely going. Definitely a ying/yang sort of deal. In the end, he wanted to go to Vietnam and went there. I was dead set against going and didn't have to go. We both got what we wanted, unlike thousands of others.

Now, I have a 16 yr. old son and I worry sometimes that the politicians will start up another draft and we'll have to decide what to do........ :(

I am in that very small group that did not even have to register, after the war they stopped registration it was re-enacted in time for my brother who is 2.5 years younger than me to have had to register. There are only two years worth of natural USA citzens who did not need to be registered and they were born sometime between the end of 1957 and the beginning 1960...

I remember being a teenager and watching the lotteries for Vietnam on TV. But then Whitlam came along just before my eighteenth birthday and withdrew Oz from Vietnam. A lot of change was happening at the time so inevitably the establishment took umbrage and he was withdrawn as well in one of the dirtiest moments in the history of Oz politics. As you say Bravo, life goes on.

Yea you know we all disliked tricky dick back in the sixties, jonny Carson made fun of him and you know what happened to the smothers bros. but the guy got us out. I did the brown water navy, swift boat ,I was young and stupid got nick named big swifty! Then the FZ lp came out and I couldn't believe the name of the song, of course we all know what Bravo Sierra and Charlie Foxtrot is ;there was a lot of it in the military, not that I'm full of it or anything......
now i'm old and stupid.

Sorry, BRAVO...the guy killed fifty-thousand American boys to get what he could have got in 1968. All the better to get himself re-elected.

I have a brother who is very big on war. He doesn't like hippies.

I asked him why he didn't go to 'Nam. He said he got a high number.

But! He could have joined!

My decision to join the Air Force was based largely on the fact that Vietnam was over. I had a great time in the service.

Nixon may have been the best foriegn policy president in modern times, that is why he was politically assasinated with watergate, he waited just the right amount of time to get out of VN, he had opened up China, he was having great success with Russia...hey they had to stop him, he was headed to world peace...
