Can't beat Dylan when it comes to lyrics.. kudos, Lumpy. Here's my current favorite:

It ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
It don't matter, anyhow
An' it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
If you don't know by now
When your rooster crows at the break of dawn
Look out your window and I'll be gone
You're the reason I'm trav'lin' on
Don't think twice, it's all right

It ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe
That light I never knowed
An' it ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe
I'm on the dark side of the road
Still I wish there was somethin' you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
We never did too much talkin' anyway
So don't think twice, it's all right

It ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal
Like you never did before
It ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal
I can't hear you any more
I'm a-thinkin' and a-wond'rin' all the way down the road
I once loved a woman, a child I'm told
I give her my heart but she wanted my soul
But don't think twice, it's all right

I'm walkin' down that long, lonesome road, babe
Where I'm bound, I can't tell
But goodbye's too good a word, gal
So I'll just say fare thee well
I ain't sayin' you treated me unkind
You could have done better but I don't mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don't think twice, it's all right

dylan is the greatest. the swedish academy ought to bow down to the pressure soon, and give him the nobel prize.

Two Grey Rooms
by Joni Mitchell

Tomorrow is Sunday
Now there's only one day left to go
Till you walk by
Below my window
The weekends drive me mad
Holidays are oh too sad
'Cause you don't go
Below my window

No one knows I'm here
One day I just disappeared
And I took these two grey rooms up here
With a view
When you walk by
Below my window

You look so youthful
Time has been untruthful
Heaven knows I loved you
Hot days your shirt's undone
Rainy days you run
Oh and then you fade so fast
Below my window

No one knows I'm here
One day I just disappeared
And I took these two grey rooms up here
With a view
Only when you walk by
Below my window
When you walk by

Below my window
Below my window
Hey hey
Below my window
Below my window
Below my window

more dylan...

wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a gypsy queen,
wiggle, wiggle, wiggle all dressed in green,
wiggle, wiggle, wiggle 'til the moon is blue,
wiggle 'til the moon sees you.

wiggle, wiggle, wiggle in your boots and shoes,
wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, you got nothing to lose,
wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, like a swarm of bees,
wiggle on your hands and knees.

wiggle to the front, wiggle to the rear,
wiggle 'til you wiggle right out of here,
wiggle 'til it opens, wiggle 'til it shuts,
wiggle 'til it bites, wiggle 'til it cuts.

wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup,
wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop,
wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead,
wiggle - you can raise the dead.

wiggle 'til you're high, wiggle 'til you're higher,
wiggle 'til you vomit fire,
wiggle 'til it whispers, wiggle 'til it hums,
wiggle 'til it answers, wiggle 'til it comes.

wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like satin and silk,
wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a pail of milk,
wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, rattle and shake,
wiggle like a big fat snake.

Did you ever wake up to find

A day that broke up your mind

Destroyed your notion of circular time

It's just that demon life has got you in its sway

It's just that demon life has got you in its sway

Ain't flinging tears out on the dusty ground

For all my friends out on the burial ground

Can't stand the feeling getting so brought down

It's just that demon life has got me in its sway

It's just that demon life has got me in its sway

There must be ways to find out

Love is the way they say is really strutting out

One day I woke up to find

Right in the bed next to mine

Someone that broke me up with a corner of her smile

It's just that demon life has got me in its sway

It's just that demon life has got me in its sway

"Sway" - Rolling Stones (Still at their height.)

while we're on the stones...

What a drag it is getting old.

"Things are different today,"
I hear ev'ry mother say
Cooking fresh food for a husband's just a drag
So she buys an instant cake and she burns her frozen steak
And goes running for the shelter of a mother's little helper
And two help her on her way, get her through her busy day.

Doctor, please, some more of these
Outside the door, she took four more
What a drag it is getting old.

"Men just aren't the same today,"
I hear ev'ry mother say
They just don't appreciate that you get tired
They're so hard to satisfy. You can tranquilise your mind
So go running for the shelter of a mother's little helper
And four help you through the night, help to minimise your plight.

Doctor,please, some more of these
Outside the door, she took four more
What a drag it is getting old.

"Life's just much too hard today,"
I hear ev'ry mother say
The pursuit of happiness just seems a bore
And if you take more of those, you will get an overdose
No more running to the shelter of a mother's little helper
They just helped you on your way through your busy dying day.

to be alone with you
just you and me
now won't you tell me true
ain't that the way it oughta be?
to hold each other tight
the whole night through
ev'rything is always right
when I'm alone with you.

to be alone with you
at the close of the day
with only you in view
while evening slips away
it only goes to show
that while life's pleasures be few
the only one I know
is when I'm alone with you.

they say that nighttime is the right time
to be with the one you love
too many thoughts get in the way in the day
but you're always what I'm thinkin' of
I wish the night were here
bringin' me all of your charms
when only you are near
to hold me in your arms.

I'll always thank the lord
when my working day's through
I get my sweet reward
to be alone with you.

The Carpet Crawlers

(I've decided this song is about sperm trying to procreate. Quite a realization.)

There is lambswool under my naked feet.
The wool is soft and warm,
-gives off some kind of heat.
A salamander scurries into flame to be destroyed.
Imaginary creatures are trapped in birth on celluloid.
The fleas cling to the golden fleece,
Hoping they'll find peace.
Each thought and gesture are caught in celluloid.
There's no hiding in my memory.
There's no room to void.

The crawlers cover the floor in the red ochre corridor.
For my second sight of people, they've more lifeblood than before.
They're moving. They're moving in time to a heavy wooden door,
Where the needle's eye is winking, closing in on the poor.
The carpet crawlers heed their callers:
"We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out."

There's only one direction in the faces that I see;
It's upward to the ceiling, where the chambers said to be.
Like the forest fight for sunlight, that takes root in every tree.
They are pulled up by the magnet, believing that they're free.
The carpet crawlers heed their callers:
"We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out."

Mild mannered supermen are held in kryptonite,
And the wise and foolish virgins giggle with their bodies glowing bright.
Through a door a harvest feast is lit by candlight;
It's the bottom of a staircase that spirals out of sight.
The carpet crawlers heed their callers:
"We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out."

The porcelain mannikin with shattered skin fears attack.
The eager pack lift up their pitchers- the carry all they lack.
The liquid has congealed, which has seeped out through the crack,
And the tickler takes his stickleback.
The carpet crawlers heed their callers:
"We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out."

Possibly the best lyrics I have heard in 10 years.
"Heaven's In New York"
By Wyclef Jean

If it was my last day on earth
I'd treat it like my first
go out the way I came in
so innocent so pure with no thoughts of insecurity
Live life to the fullest be what I wanna be
Last day on earth I tell my momma don’t cry I'll see my daddy in paradise
Where the blind can see, the mute can talk, the crippled can walk
but for now Heaven's in New York
Oh oh oh ohhh oh oh oh Heavens in New York oh oh oh oh
First thing I'd do is go back in time take the twin towers, put it back in the skyline
Tell my girl two wrongs still don’t make a right
Make love for the last time under the candlelight
Pick up my hommies at the gentleman club after that hit
Club and Reminisce about the High School Days
Man I sucked as a quarterback remember getting sacked man almost broke my back yeah

If it was my last day on earth
I'd treat it like my first
go out the way I came in
so innocent so pure with no thoughts of insecurity
Live life to the fullest be what I wanna be
Last day on earth I tell my girl don't cry I'm with my daddy in paradise
Where the blind can see, the mute can talk, the crippled can walk
but for now Heaven's in New York
Oh oh oh oh oh
Heaven’s In New York oh oh oh oh oh
I tell the man get the people a tax break
kids stop shootin I cant sing in no more ways
I cant take the money with me so I caught a movie
Favorite actress Angelina Jolie
Favorite Singer has to be Marley
Turn Up the Bass
and move to his styling’s
cant leave without reading my daughter a bedtime story the heavens is calling
If it was my last day on earth
I'd treat it like my first
go out the way I came in
so innocent so pure with no thoughts of insecurity
Live life to the fullest be what I want to be
Last day on earth I tell my Homies don't cry I'm with my daddy in paradise
Where the blind can see, the mute can talk, the crippled can walk
but for now
Heaven's in New York
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Heavens in New York
oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Welcome to New York City
Even though I walk through the Valley of Shadow of Death I fear No evil
For you are with me so tell my loves ones please don’t cry
Cause if doves can fly so can I
If it was my last day on earth
I'd treat it like my first
go out the way I came in
so innocent so pure with no thoughts of insecurity
Live life to the fullest be what I want to be
Last day on earth I tell my Homies don't cry I'm with my dad in paradise
Where the blind can see, the mute can talk, the crippled can walk
but for now
Heaven's in New York
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Heavens in New York
oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Even though I walk through the Valley of Shadow of Death I fear
No evil for you are with me so
tell my loves ones please don’t cry
Cause if doves can fly so can I
If it was my last day on earth
I'd treat it like my first
go out the way I came in
so innocent so pure with no thoughts of insecurity

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

"Well, I'm takin' my time, I'm just movin' along...You'll forget about me after I've been gone, And I take what I find, I don't want no more, It's just outside of your front door." Foreplay/Long Time - Boston

"If I had a minute for every hour that I wasted I'd be rich on time. I'd be doing fine." Broken - Jack Johnson (YES! Jack Johnson is awesome!)

"My only promise is that I'll never tell, Keep you at distance from the things that I felt, I'll bite the bullet, take the beating until I take it all back anyway, what was I suppose to say?!" Wind Up - Foo Fighters

"I can be your liar, I can be your bearer of bad news. Sick and uninspired by the diamonds in your fire. Burning like a flame inside of you. But Is this just desire or the truth." Tired of You - Foo Fighters

"Wake up your dreaming, I'm sick of your screaming." Lonely as You - Foo Fighters

"Goddamn this dusty room
This hazy afternoon
I'm breathing in this silence
Like never before

This feeling that I get
This one last cigarette
As I lay awake
And wait for you to come through the door

Oh maybe maybe maybe
I can share it with you
I behave I behave I behave
So I can share it with you

You were not alone
Dear loneliness
You forgot
But I remembered this
Oh stranger stranger
Stranger things have happened, I know

I'm not alone
Dear loneliness
I forgot
That I remembered this
Oh stranger stranger
Stranger things have happened, I know
Oh, oh
Oh, oh

We'll dream about somewhere
Our smoke will fill the air
As I lay awake and wait
For you to walk out that door
I can change I can change I can change
But who do you want me to be
I'm the same I'm the same I'm the same
What do you want me to be"
-Stranger things Have Happened - Foo Fighters

That's good for now.

By HILLEL ITALIE – 4 days ago

NEW YORK (AP) — Thanks to Bob Dylan, rock 'n' roll has finally broken through the Pulitzer wall. Dylan, the most acclaimed and influential songwriter of the past half century, who more than anyone brought rock from the streets to the lecture hall, received an honorary Pulitzer Prize on Monday, cited for his "profound impact on popular music and American culture, marked by lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power."

It was the first time Pulitzer judges, who have long favored classical music, and, more recently, jazz, awarded an art form once dismissed as barbaric, even subversive.

t.v. talkin' song

one time in london I'd gone out for a walk,
past a place called hyde park where people talk
'bout all kinds of different gods, they have their point of view
to anyone passing by, that's who they're talking to.

there was someone on a platform talking to the folks
about the t.v. god and all the pain that it invokes.
"it's too bright a light", he said, "for anybody's eyes,
if you've never seen one it's a blessing in disguise."

I moved in closer, got up on my toes,
two men in front of me were coming to blows
the man was saying something 'bout children when they're young
being sacrificed to it while lullabies are being sung.

"the news of the day is on all the time,
all the latest gossip, all the latest rhyme,
your mind is your temple, keep it beautiful and free,
don't let an egg get laid in it by something you can't see."

"pray for peace!" he said, you could feel it in the crowd.
my thoughts began to wander. his voice was ringing loud,
"it will destroy your family, your happy home is gone
no one can protect you from it once you turn it on."

"it will led you into some strange pursuits,
lead you to the land of forbidden fruits.
it will scramble up your head and drag your brain about,
sometimes you gotta do like elvis did and shoot the damn thing out."

"it's all been designed", he said, "to make you lose your mind,
and when you go back to find it, there's nothing there to find."
"everytime you look at it, your situation's worse,
if you feel it grabbing out for you, send for the nurse."

the crowd began to riot and they grabbed hold of the man,
there was pushing, there was shoving and everybody ran.
the t.v. crew was there to film it, they jumped right over me,
later on that evening, I watched it on t.v.

Let me in, the voice cried softly,
from outside the wooden door.
Scattered remnants of the ship could be seen in the distance,
Blood stained the icy wall of the shore.

I'm the only one left. The storm, took them all,
He managed as he tried to stand.
The tears ran down his face.
Please, it's cold.

When he woke, there was no trace of the ship.
Only the dawn was left behind by the storm.
He felt the creaking of the stairs beneath him.
That rose, from the sea, to the door.

There was a sound at the window then.
The captain started, his breath was still.
Slowly, he turned.

From behind the edge of the windowsill,
There appeared the delicate hand of a child.
His face was flush and timid.
He stared at the captain through frightened eyes.

The captain reached for something to hold on to,
Help me, he whispered, as he rose slowly to his feet.
The boy's face went pale,
He recognized the sound.

Silently, he pulled down the shade against the shadow.
Lost in the doorstep of the empty house.

I'm trying to find my way home.

I'm sorry...
...and I miss you.

I miss you.
I've grown taller now.
I want the police to be notified.
I'll make it up to you,
I swear, I'll make it up to you.

I miss you.

more dylan...:

under the red sky

there was a little boy and there was a little girl
and they lived in an alley under the red sky.
there was a little boy and there was a little girl
and they lived in an alley under the red sky.

there was an old man and he lived in the moon,
one summer's day he came passing by.
there was an old man and he lived in the moon,
and one day he came passing by.

someday little girl, everything for you is gonna be new
someday little girl you'll have a diamond as big as your shoe

let the wind blow low, let the wind blow high.
one day the little boy and the little girl were both baked in a pie.
let the wind blow low, let the wind blow high.
one day the little boy and the little girl were both baked in a pie.

this is the key to the kingdom and this is the town
this is the blind horse that leads you around

let the bird sing, let the bird fly,
one day the man in the moon went home and the river went dry.
let the bird sing, let the bird fly,
the man in the moon went home and the river went dry.

I always liked that song. Not sure about your theory, though...

Gold coast slave ship bound for cotton fields
Sold in a market down in New Orleans
Scarred old slaver knows he's doing alright
Hear him whip the women just around midnight

Your as stiff as my smokin' barrel
You as dead as a desert night
You're a notch and I'm a legend
Your at peace and I must hide

If you get lonely on your daddy's farm
Just remember I don't live too far.
And there's a red bridge that arcs the bay, yeah
You'll be at my place in less than a day.
So get on your bad motor scooter and ride
Up over to my place and stay all night.
First thing in the morning we'll be feeling all right
So get on your bad motor scooter and ride.
Ooh, the last time I seen your face
swore that no one would take your place.
Now since you've been gone I've been feelin' bad, yeah
I'd come out to your place (but)
I'm afraid of your dad. So you...
Ride, ride, ride.
Come on baby, ooh yeah.
Crank it on up!

Said my get up and go musta got up and went
Well I got good news, she's a real good liar
'Cause the backstage boogie set your pants on fire

Cold and misty morning, I heard a warning borne in the air
About an age of power where no one had an hour to spare,
Where the seeds have withered, silent children shivered, in the cold
Now their faces captured in the lenses of the jackals for gold.
I'll be there
I'll be there
I will be there.

Suffering in silence, they've all been betrayed.
They hurt them and they beat them, in a terrible way,
Praying for survival at the end of the day.
There is no compassion for those who stay.
I'll be there
I'll be there
I will be there.

There must be someone who can set them free:
To take their sorrow from this odyssey
To help the helpless and the refugee
To protect what's left of humanity.
Can't you see
Can't you see
Can't you see.

I'll be there
I'll be there
I will be there;
To heal their sorrow
To beg and borrow
Fight tommorow.

Step inside! Hello! We've the most amazing show
You'll enjoy it all we know
Step inside! Step Inside!

We've got thrills and shocks, supersonic fighting cocks.
Leave your hammers at the box
Come Inside! Come Inside!
Roll up! Roll up! Roll up!
See the show!

Left behind the bars, rows of Bishops' heads in jars
and a bomb inside a car
Spectacular! Spectacular!

If you follow me there's a speciality
some tears for you to see
Misery, misery,
Roll up! Roll up! Roll up!
See the show!

Next upon the bill in our House of Vaudeville
We've a stripper in a till
What a thrill! What a thrill!
And not content with that, with our hands behind our backs,
We pull Jesus from a hat,
Get into that! Get into that!
Roll up! Roll up! Roll up!
See the show!

Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends
We're so glad you could attend
Come inside! Come inside!
There behind a glass is a real blade of grass
be careful as you pass.
Move along! Move along!

Come inside, the show's about to start
guaranteed to blow your head apart
Rest assured you'll get your money's worth
The greatest show in Heaven, Hell or Earth.
You've got to see the show, it's a dynamo.
You've got to see the show, it's rock and roll ....

Soon the Gypsy Queen in a glaze of Vaseline
Will perform on guillotine
What a scene! What a scene!
Next upon the stand will you please extend a hand
to Alexander's Ragtime Band
Roll up! Roll up! Roll up!
See the show!

Performing on a stool we've a sight to make you drool
Seven virgins and a mule
Keep it cool. Keep it cool.
We would like it to be known the exhibits that were shown
were exclusively our own,
All our own. All our own.
Come and see the show! Come and see the show! Come and see the show!
See the show!
