Goog grief Plook it is mathematically impossible for the aca to work and have rates drop, man you are in some kind of fantasy land . Why in the hell do you think Obama lied about the coverage? Cause it would not have been voted in. Or are you in denial that cali is going bankrupt with all their handouts?

Actually when he said it it was correct, those whose policies changed after 2010 to a coverage that does not meet the standard cannot keep their current coverage, the insurance companies pulled a fast one.

You can always tell who the prey are by their posturing...the republicans and insurance companies know they are cooked when people find out how good this ACA is, therefore they are trying to trip it up, confuse the facts, and throw up a dust cloud to murky the view of this thing.

Why do you think they are trying so hard to kill this thing, they know it’s a winner, that is why they are doing everything they can to muck it up. The Republicans have fought all the recovery plans, the ACA, cut children programs, veterans program, old peoples programs, jobs programs, shut down the government costing 300 billion dollars, allowed the sequester and anything else they could to make President Blacky McBlackmans presidency a failure.

The ACA is the one thing that can put him up there with the top of the top and the Republicans are running scared like the rats they are...will see how it plays out, if they new it was a failure they would help it through let it fail and President Obama would go down as a failure and they could repel it with unanimous consent in 4 years. They protestith too much...

In the end the Republicans are going to look like idiots for not owning ACA since it was there plan to begin with and the insurance companies are going to lose their legal thief status...

You sure make a good 60's hippie , free sex, free drugs, we deserve more, until you spend every one else s money, check the cbo 20 million will remain uninsured after 6 years, and yes , Obama knew full well that policies would be lost, by 2015 if you read the law 90 million will lose their policies , wow, just wait for it.

I still maintain that in the end, the ACA will finally run smoothly. Then we'll see what it's strengths and limits really are. The folks on the right are just making shit up about how horrible it is so they can screw Obama. NO ONE knows what the final assessment is going to be, yet, on either political side. We only know what it's designed to do.

However, anyone who doesn't think it will be significantly better that what we've had in this country until now is either posturing for political purposes or uninformed. The coverage we've had until now is absolutely terrible, and it encourages insurance company gouging and bankruptcy due to garbage policies.

Obama will reap the consequences of lying to the nation, as will a lot of democrats coming up for re-election.

But that doesn't nullify how good it could really be if it's allowed to just work for a while. 2 separate issues.

Below is a list of companies exempted from Obamacare.

These might include anyone who doesn't think it will be significantly better that what we've had in this country until now is either posturing for political purposes or uninformed.

I wonder how many of these companies supported the current administration . :|

I regretfully have to inform you that the system is designed to capture everyone and if you get off your ass and sign up you're covered, there is a small group less than 3% who can fall throw the crack, but they are trying to plug that hole, but once again if they sign up they are covered, once everyone see's how much better this is they will jump in including companies, they want saving also... :smoke:

Pedro, I know very little of the US healthcare system except that US doctor treatments cost a lot more than they should, that insurance policies have to match that price and that people without health insurance are essentially screwed. When a mass medium like Simpsons spoofs it in the way it did, it should make people watch it and say "hey, we should change something about that", rather than "let's sit on our backs and watch big shots get even richer over poor people's backs, because America is great". True, the Simpsons argument is not a very good one, but it's more valid than the America Is Great argument that prevails with yourself and Bravo Sierra. Let's talk again in a few months, when you can see your world has not collapsed because of Obamacare.

Nancy Pelosi said of the ACA, "we had to vote for it to see what's in it". Now it's looking like Obama didn't even know what was in it.

It was written by health care and insurance lobbyists, and voted on by congress critters who are already in their pockets.

Sorry, but that's how America works.

Sorry , BBP , but I can't ascribe to the idea that a show like the Simpson's should be the barometer of how a country , or anything , is sized up.

Sorry , again.
I wasn't in school the day that ' Hating America is Hip ' was taught.

I still maintain that controlling the costs of health care would go further in downsizing the monster the whole world has to deal with in terms of a healthier world.

And now obama has thrown the insurance industry under the bus, He knew all along what that outcome would be, and banked on the low information voters that voted him in to believe what he said. Now every thing is in place, next november the big corp. and union deferrals will expire and an estimated 90 million will lose their current plans setting the stage for a government puss for a single payer system. I along with many do not want the fed government to tell me what my health insurance is going to be. Obama can't run his own life I'll be damned if he'll run mine.

Poor insurance companies. Let's all stop and say a prayer for them....

Then let's make a list of people who have died, or had catastrophic health conditions go untreated because these companies bailed on their commitments, or the millions of people who have lost everything because they had a pre-existing condition.

Personal anecdote: We are a family of 3. We've been paying about $1500/month for insurance - which we pay for ourselves. It's good coverage but not perfect. Our policy has been cancelled by Blue Cross, and we have until January to get another plan through the exchanges. Looks like, after perusing the options the plan offers - YES WE GOT ON THE WEBSITE! - we can get the same insurance with the addition of dental coverage, which we didn't have before. It will cost us either a bit less or a bit more, depending on which actual plan we and up getting. The plan will upgrade substantially because it will have to comply with the basic standards of the ACA, meaning pre-existing conditions won't matter, etc.

Everyone calm down.

You know all you there is to know about our healthcare. Obamacare will not lower those prices. It will "redistribute" those costs more onto the backs of the working class.
What needs to happen is to LOWER MEDICAL COSTS. Why not force the burden of "redistribution" onto the doctors that charge enormous rates for only minutes of work?
There was a time when the medical field was a calling not a career choice based on how much $$ you could amass in as short a time as possible.

Pedro, I am doing my best to make my way out of the argument, since I don't feel like looking up any statistics or facts to back me up just for a few seconds of fame on a web forum that ZFT doesn't even consider anymore, and you reply by saying something rude about Hating America Is Hip. You have simply very little understanding of how other countries work. Pretty much everybody has that. When you see and are very aware that something is going very badly in a country due to bad policy, it's a lot easier to pinpoint to the exact flaw in that system that falls in the information you have, which is never accurate and a very global distillation. This goes for US healthcare as well as for, say, US gun laws, Japanese focus on prestation causing suicide or Swedish high amount of divorces allegedly caused by their parent plan or Dutch towering house prices due to m-o-r-t-gage interest that can be subtracted from income tax. There is ample evidence that poor people in the US are exempt for health care, in the same way there is ample evidence that Dutch house prices have gotten so high due to the m-o-r-t-gage interest system. But how can you delete that system for m-ortgaging? Not easily. It will plummet house prices and there are plenty of home owners who would lose a lot of money: even a gradual break-down of the system will cause people a lot of personal problems. It was a taboo for a long time because there's nearly always been that one major right-wing party in the government to put brakes on it.

All the world can see that house prices in The Netherlands are way too high and that this will cause problems to a lot of people at the moment and to many more people in the future. Not all the world can see how tricky it would be to manage to get rid of the tax advantage. The same goes for Obamacare. A lot of people from the outside can see what's wrong about the old situation in US healthcare, but they can't see how much of a hassle it would be to get a new system, since the people who get rich over it have power and will do anything to keep the status quo.

Hats off to Obama for trying to make a difference. I worry that as soon as the Republicans hit the office, Obamacare will be gone, all this will have been in vain, government will have lost a lot of money to please a happy few, there'll be no change in a place it so sorely needs.

Wow

I didn't realize you were so ' worldly '. Maybe you really should spend a little time reading some facts and figures instead of stating your ' knowledgeable ' opinion.

You have no idea of my past or where I come from and your reply is quite condescending and inaccurate at best.

YOU WEREN'T READING WERE YOU!
I'm done talking to you Pedro. If you read correctly, NOBODY has an idea of the exact situation in any given country, it's complex matter and you need to care as much about the interest problem of The Netherlands as I need to care about Obamacare. My main point was that: it's easy for a foreigner to point at a problem but not to point at a solution.

Since there's absolutely no point in talking to you, I'll cease it before I do something I truly regret. Stop talking to me, I won't react anymore.

My point remains that the ACA has been in effect for 6 weeks and people like Pedro think they know exactly how it will go and how horrible it will be for all of us, by cherry picking quotes from right-wing radio or the internet. That's just not possible yet. And the fact remains that what we had before the ACA was terrible health care coverage by any standard, which was harmful to the country.

I wasn't winning anything, just trying to make a way out and apologizing. It's easy for me to say "it's wrong, your health system, it needs a serious overhaul", but as non-US citizen who was completely baffled by the Tea Party taking the nation hostage over Obamacare with the shutdown thing, I wouldn't know how to solve it. Or the gun licence thing. It's not my responsibility and I'm not interested in debating, and getting stuck in a debate, that's really something I don't like. Please people, don't let me step into debate again.

Let's talk about the Philippines. Over 10,000 casualties so far.

The pictures coming in from the Philippians are scary looking. 200 mph gusts of wind blowing cities right off the map. Over 10,000 dead. This makes Katrina look like a tempest in a teapot comparatively.
