THe Red Les Paul Custom that FZ used in the 1980's what are the machine heads?
This is a particularly fine guitar and I wonder if these were standard issue for this Les Paul. There is a great picture on the front of the Shut up and play your guitar.. boxset that was issued in Holland, that ended up in England.

Talking of Holland, Jan Akkerman was approached by Zappa..the only reasons why Zappa could not offer him a gig in the early 70's was Jan was in Focus, and Frank said that there was only one guitar player in the band, namely himself. Not quite sure where the truth lies on this anecdote

Talking about Akkerman:

The anecdote I heard in the 1970s was that Akkerman in some interview said that there were two great guitarists in the world: Jan Akkerman and Frank Zappa. When someone read that to Frank his response was:

"Who the fuck is Jan Akkerman?"

Oh, is that right!!??.....

Frank knew about Jan Akkerman, but then again FZ was just as capable as anyone regarding picqued revisionistic principles toward his encounters and personal history. Both of them have/had memories likened to an Elephant.

Who made the machine heads, thats what I wish to know .

From my poor memory, I recall a Guitar Player interview, where Zappa mentioned that his Les Paul was a complete standard off the rack guitar. He just liked it on the spot, and that was it. So, maybe they were the original heads? But try raise the question in, e.g., the "Randominiom" section. This part is mostly for question about the Forum itself. Some may have overlooked it. Good luck!
