Dear Gail Zappa

Hello - I am a journalist at The Bigh Issue in Lodnon, England and I needed to chat to someone from the Zappa Family Trust regarding a story I am doing on a photographer called Robert (Bobby) Davidson. According to Davidson, he took the iconographic picutre of Frank Zappa sitting on the toilet that is now on display at the V & A Museum in London. Mr Davidson approached our magazine to tell his story - he now wants to be given credit for having snapped that particularly memorable shot. According to the V & A, the identity of the photographer does indeed remain a mystery. Does the Zappa Trust or indeed, anyone in the Zappa famiily know the identity of the photographer and if not, could you comment on Mr Davidson's claims to fame?

Sadly, I am on deadline so would appreciate a response as soon as possible.

Many thanks for your kind attention on this matter.

Best regards

hmm Iv heard a couple versions of this story from interviews w\ Frank:
1.) That while goin to the bathroom he got abushed on the pot.
2.) That this was a promo photo, and after it was shot the photographer sold millions of posters and kept all the dough. The copyrights are\were different from US copyrights. So over there legaly the guy who takes the picture has all the rights, and not person being shot. Whatever the situation was ,its pretty selfish and shitty for the photographer to take the money and run. Hope he goes blind.

Ahhh, the infamous "Phi Zappa Krappa" poster.
This has always intrigued me since I become a hardcore fan of FZ in 1977.
When I was 11 (1969) there was a box in the record department of the local department store which contained a series of about 15 or so posters. It was a very slick display that had a picture of each of the posters available: Blind Faith (group and individual shots of Winwood, Clapton & Baker), the Stones, Hendrix (of course) and some others that I can't remember. I used to drool over the Blind Faith ones cause they were my favorite group at the time but I never shelled out for one (probably couldn't afford it). I have never seen ANY of these posters anywhere since. I wish I would have gotten a couple since they are obviously so rare. Anyway, the Zappa one always struck me because it was the only one that I recall seeing listed that was in black and white. Ever since then whenever I mention this poster to someone that claims to have it they always end up showing me the cartoon version which is a low angle and not the same pose that I remember. The pose I recall is taken from above with FZ peering up towards the camera. If anyone could post a copy of this photo on here I would be very grateful. If it has already been posted here could some one point me in the right direction? Thank you.

gnits---i don't have that poster, but i have seen the picture, i have 2 versions of the poster, one in b/w, and the other with curly designs around the picture. shoulda saved up your funds, the blind faith posters probably are very rare, as is the different angle poster of zappa crappa. hindsight is a painful thing sometimes, eh?

I for one have this very poster, an original print. In real good shape, considering the age of it. I have it framed and on my livingroom wall.

That backstageauctions.com auction preview has an alternate 'crappazappa' photo for sale from Kaylan's collection. Possibly the originator of this thread could get a photog's name from the auction house?

I guess this is the one.

Got it in 1983, I think. Through a Dutch radio show on KRO-radio (Catholic boys...).

It was glued on the wall of someone's toilet, and the owner took it off and sent it to me, with some wallpaper still on it. As you can see, it has slightly fallen apart since then. Almost 40 years old.

      AAAFNRAA!!

we're working on something & we've got to get out of it so we can get into it,

like ZAPPA PLAY'S ZAPPA at the 5th 10klf, i read someplace that it was printed on a program at the lanerado fest in florida? can this be confirmed?

It remains neither confirmed nor verified. No amount of research has as yet yielded any degree of this success with this shit.
